Resilience – Alicia RadesResilience by Alicia Rades
Series: Vengeance and Vampires #2

A week ago, I was slaying vampires in dark alleys. Now I’m trying to save the freaking world.

I’m a witch, a shifter, a self-proclaimed vampire slayer, and more than a little ticked off. The Soulless took my sister, and I’m determined to find where the elite group of vampires is hiding.

But before I can go after her, I get a warning from a high witch. There’s a vamp after a dark and dangerous artifact, one that would allow him to control magic and sell it to the highest bidder. I must pursue him if I hope to survive my sister’s rescue.

I have no idea what I’ve gotten myself into. All I know is that my friends and I have to get to the artifact first… even if it means facing our worst nightmares to stop him.

I loved the first book in this series and I knew I needed to read the next as soon as it came out, and to my immense excitement, I was able to read an ARC copy *cue crazy dancing*

And I have to say, this book certainly does not disappoint. It’s just as good as, if not better than, the first. There’s a bit more depth involved that comes from digging deeper into the innermost parts of the story and building off of it; you learn more about what originally happened with the vampires and why Rae is so important to the magic community. It’s actually quite fascinating and the way Ms. Rades worked out this whole plot is so creative and imaginative. I didn’t expect the direction she went with it, and I have to say that I thought it added an interesting layer to the story as a whole.

The relationship between Rae and Venn continues to grow–and I’m not ashamed to admit that there were a few moments between them that made me swoon like a schoolgirl. Venn is adorable and is so loving and supportive of Rae … it was just so sweet watching their relationship progress and grow stronger. While Rae was initially reluctant to have any emotional attachment to Venn, in this book she was embracing their connection and then learned why it was so strong.

We finally get to meet Sondra, the powerful witch who had been kidnapped by vampires and taken as prisoner in book one. I was afraid I wasn’t going to like her, but she ended up being one of my favorite secondary characters in the story. She has a ton of wisdom to share with the group and somewhat acts like the den mother, which gives her and Rae a sweet bond that comes about quickly.

All in all, I greatly enjoyed this book. It does end on a slight cliffhanger, so be prepared for that, but I actually think it adds a bit more excitement for the next book, so I’m not too worried 😉 I’m already looking forward to the next book, but when it ends with a few unanswered questions, then you know you have something else to look forward to!

I highly recommend this series for anyone who enjoys a good slow burn paranormal romance 🙂 If you read it, let me know what you think!!

Happy reading!
