This was absolute RomCom gold. I honestly can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard while reading a book. Lou is the most hysterical character I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. The way her brain works and how she words things are hilarious.
After Lou’s landlord passes away, his son takes over and raises the rent. Unable to pay the full amount, she places an ad for a roommate to help pay for the apartment–and quick. When her new roommate comes in the form of Abel Russo, the most popular guy in school and the university’s star quarterback, she has quite the shock. She’s convinced he’s nothing but a vapid, air-brained, womanizing footballer–but what she gets is so much more.
The longer Lou and Abel live together, the closer they grow, and the deeper their feelings become. Reading the progression of their relationship was so sweet, and Abel is one of the most attentive and smitten heroes I have ever read about. The relationship is all at once sweet, fun, completely swoony, and so adorable, I could hardly stand it.
Throughout this story, we join Lou in her fight to ward off insecurity–despite her mostly confident attitude–and learn a valuable lesson by not judging a book by its cover–or a person by their jersey. Also, as a couple honorable mentions, the relationship Lou has with her mom is hilarious and reminds me of my mom and me. And Lou’s best friend is just as crazy as she is and the little quips the author managed to pack in here were the best. They were fun and had me laughing my butt off without ever feeling forced or “too much.” I just can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this wonderful book <3
If you’re a RomCom fan, do yourself a favor and read this story. I highly doubt you’ll regret it!
