first things first
I’m a fan of Elena Lawson and always enjoy reading her why choose story lines, and this was absolutely no exception. The magic she and Blake created with this book is just *chef’s kiss*
main
This was all at once fun, dark, sexy, and angsty. I had such a great time reading this book!
Aurora is traumatized from years of abuse, but that doesn’t stop her from being a total badass. She gives just as much as she gets with the guys once she begins staying with them, which I of course loved. I also loved the addition of her pup Ellie, who is just the sweetest little critter. I love when books have animal sidekicks!
I loved how each man had a distinct personality and they each had differing ways of handling Aurora. Seven was my immediate favorite–no surprise there–and I loved seeing how down bad he was for Ro. If anything, he just kept falling harder for her. Eli is so sweet and his past is devastating–I felt so bad for him. Atticus is…a lot. I can understand why he feels the way he does, but that doesn’t excuse his actions toward Aurora.
bullet points
- I love the end her ex rightfully found.
- The kitchen scene with Seven was…wow 🥵🔥
- I loved how Aurora went with the “job” when she was with Seven and Eli. I’m hoping we’ll maybe get to see more scenes like this in book 2!
- I’m so nervous to see how book 2’s story line with Aurora’s new “job”; I just have a bad feeling about how it’s going to go 😬
final thoughts
I’m incredibly nervous for how the next book is going to go, but I also can’t wait to read it!
If you’re a fan of dark why choose romance, I definitely suggest reading this book.
As always, if you do end up reading it, feel free to come back and let me know what you thought in the comments!
Happy reading!

Other than ARCs, I read pretty much exclusively on KU. It’s saved me a ton of money through the years and I love how easy it is to read through the program!
