Eve

I fell for the one person I should have run from—the one who destroyed everything. My world. My sanity.
He stole my life…and then he stole my heart.
Now I’m broken. Lost. Haunted.
Even hidden away, I can’t escape him. His voice whispers in the dark, his shadow follows me everywhere.
This asylum holds secrets even darker than him. In this place, monstrous deeds don’t stay buried. And the devil never lets go.

Emery

I held heaven in my hands, and the world ripped her from me.
Now there’s nothing left of me but obsession and vengeance. I’m a broken man—a dangerous man—with nothing to lose.
Except her. My Eve. My salvation. My undoing.
Even death can’t stop me. Eve is mine. She’ll always be mine.
This time, I won’t just take her back—I’ll burn the world to keep her.
And together, we’ll finish what we started.

housekeeping

This is another book that unfortunately fell by the wayside when I was sick early in January. I’ve also been struggling with a migraine flare 🙃 So I greatly apologize for how delayed this review has been. I’m trying to get myself together lol

intro

Beautiful Prey was one of my top reads of 2024, so I was super excited to read the continuation of Emery and Eve’s story in Haunted Prey. To say this was one of the most satisfying endings to a duet I’ve ever read is an understatement. It will probably come as no surprise to anyone who’s reading that this book has made my top reads of 2025. Lora Darc is a fantastic writer and I couldn’t be more impressed with these books.

main thoughts

This book picks up where the first one left off. Somehow, Lora was able to do what I expected, but in an unexpected way (does that make sense? Maybe.)

One of the things I loved most about this book was how the main characters seemed to switch. This time, it was [mainly] Eve struggling with her mental state while Emery was learning to heal his. So now, not only do they have the evil people from their pasts to contend with, they also have the demons inside Eve’s mind. It was bad enough when Emery was hardcore struggling with his inner battles. So, that was an incredibly interesting addition to the book where they already had so much to overcome.

Also, the dichotomy of Eve being haunted by the version of Emery she had feared for so long while being in love with the man he is was brilliant. I loved how that was written, and without giving spoilers, how the hallucination influenced her actions so much.

I’m also really hoping for the stories of the other men who were experimented on as children. I’m particularly interested in the twins…and I totally ship them with Eve’s best friend 🙊 But we’ll see what happens! I don’t even know if she plans on writing their stories, but if she does, I’m going to be ALL over those books!

bullet points

  • if Emery was hot in the first book, he was scalding in this one. I absolutely loved how he is just completely obsessed and overwhelmingly in love with Evee.
  • [slight spoiler] the addition of the other people who were experimented on as children was great and something I was hoping for while reading the first book.
  • Emery’s evolution from book one to book two was stunning. Is he 100 percent “cured” and no longer dealing with mental health issues? No. But that’s part of why I loved it so much.

final thoughts

10/10 conclusion to this duet. I actually liked this one better than the first, which, if you read my previous review, you know that’s saying a lot. Lora Darc has created an incredible story within these books and if you’re a fan of dark romance, you need to read them!

And as always, if you read these books, please come back and let me know what you thought in the comments!

Happy reading, book friends!
