Magical Academy/New Adult – Rejected Mates – Dual POV
Harper wants anything but to attend the Realm’s most elite magical university, the Ares-Valentine Academy. A tragic event in her history has her feeling like she has to go. She’s barely fitting in when her professor makes her feel more unwelcome than anyone else.
The academy’s newest professor has had a nearly life-long goal fueling his every step. He’s well aware of the dangers of his path of vengeance. No one will stop him, or get in his way.
*This book does end on a cliffhanger. The story will conclude with book 2 of the duology.

first things first
I’m a HUGE fan of academy settings. I try to read as many books set in an academy as I possibly can, and adding magic/fantasy themes makes it even better (thank you, Harry Potter)!
This book sucked me in immediately.
main thoughts
This book was a perfect mix of frustration and swooning. The MMC in particular is excruciatingly frustrating. He’s icy at best and a royal d*ck at worst when he first meets our FMC, but keep in mind there’s a reason for his standoffishness (we’re going to pretend that’s a word).
I loved the FMC. She’s an interesting character and honestly, just plain fun to read. She’s the kind of girl I’d want to be friends with, lol.
There’s not a super unique magic system, but I liked it. Also, there’s an entire underlying secret society within this story that added a whole new layer to the story and explained Nick’s motivations quite a bit.
bullet points
- I LOVE the Professor x Student trope. I know it can be controversial, but I’ve always loved them 😍 (and please remember I’m talking about FICTION tropes, not necessarily real world relationships)
- Someone in another review said this book feels nostalgic and I completely agree. It was nostalgic in the best way 💖
- I normally hate love triangles, but I kind of enjoyed this one. It definitely made for an extra interesting part of the story.
end thoughts
This was a great book and I can’t wait to read book 2! That cliffhanger, while not super brutal, definitely made me want to continue the story (well done, author. Well done.)
