Hemlock Academy #2

Second Glances

Rate this book
I thought having six mate marks was more than I could handle. And then Cyrus and Dar came along and told me that I was theirs, too. Male conduits, looking for their mate for over a hundred years. No pressure, right?

I thought that being someone else's fated meant everything would be easy, that our connection would be instant. But that theory doesn't take into account the life they've led before finding me. Am I really enough?

Then there's the mystery guy I've been chatting to online- I don't know who he is but he seems perfect for me. My other mates are encouraging me to finish my circuit so that I'm safe from the monsters that want my magic, but I have to walk that fine line between finding who I'm meant for and making sure we have a connection and that they respect me. And that being with them won't alter the respect I hold for myself.

Things are getting crazy. Can we make it through?

Still searching for the story in this book. If a book becomes mainly about how often a girl with a big harem and the special body anatomy (no gag reflex and really flexible in other holes too) because she is a bodysmith can do it with her men I get bored. And yes there is a story there and it might be good but in this book the story is slow burn and the exchange of body fluids is super fast burn. I’m not sure if I will go on reading this series.

I went into this book with slightly elevated expectations. The first book of the series was decent but I was hoping that some of the issues would be fixed with this second book. I was wrong.

We finally get a little more plot line in this book but it is minimal. A lord of night is after Gabby because she’s so powerful. He wants to drain her magic into him so he can be strong enough to take over the world. *eyeroll* not original. Also, too much sex!! I felt like this was 80% sex and 20% plot/character development. It felt cheap and like it was trying too hard.

The beginning half of the book is similar to the first where gabby is getting to know her bonds and just trying to adjust. Then, it gets too weird. All of sudden, gabby and her bonds are supposed to take over the council and be rulers. I hated this so much. It was not believable and not one of the characters were hesitant about this change. They all jumped right in. In fact, throughout the entire book, none of the characters seem to care at all about how much their life is changing. The characters that I came to really like in the first book became completely flat in this one. I actually felt that there were just too many characters to be able to feel attached to any of them. Then, the ending where now there will be even more characters joining the party? Nope.

I want to add that the writing style/editing issues were still happening throughout this book as well. There were typos and grammar errors through out the book. The dialogue was confusing because nobody is credited for the quotations so it’s hard to figure out who is saying what. Plus, a break in lines/paragraphs doesn’t mean the speaker has shifted in this style either. With so many characters, it was hard to keep up.

1st book:
1. The leading lady who is a succubus makes 2 straight guys make out for her entertainment.
2. LL takes chapters to have sex with her Husband when she was willing to F some random chick the day she met her but ohhhh no have sex with your Mate?! Gasp! We clearly need to go slow there.
3. LL has been sexually active with women and she has never received oral? You seriously expect me to believe that? Come on...
4. It is safe for her to be sexually active with women because she can't "mate" with a woman only men... the F? So I guess no lesbians allowed.
2nd book:
1. We watch a man who has loved another man for 20 years walk away without a second glance bc he is "chosen" for her. The man has NEVER been with a female in his life and we believe he would just walk away from his partner without a care in the world? Really?
2. Incase you are wondering that man is allowed to be interested in all the other men in her court but only after he is bonded to her. He clearly seems much more interested in the men than in her.

I don't know WTF Kelsey Soliz idea is on being straight or gay or bisexual but this is all kinds of Fked up. This is just uncomfortable!

Oh I so love...

I so love this series so far.. Don't even get me started on this heroine! My girl Gabby is a straight up badass, and is funny and sarcastic ass hell. I love the heroes also but OMG, don't get me started on the sassy Goddess that keeps Gabby in her place.
Okay that's all for now.. I'm off to read book 3 of this series! Byeeeee!!!😘

I liked the first book. This one not so much.

What happened? There was a pretty decent plot. The sex scenes were alright. Then this came out and that’s all it really is. The sex scenes were even a bit cringe worthy. Poor Palmer!

It’s too rushed. In just over 400 pages (counting the first book) she has found 5 of her 6 mates and two others. This gives no real time for relationship or character development with all of the sex scenes.

Spoiler alert! She doesn’t even find her last mate and the goddess appears with a strange personality and gives her more mate marks.

Not sure I can continue this series. I apparently appreciate a story not just sex.

Update: I re-skimmed the new version of the book in the omnibus Hemlock Academy: The Complete Series - the only difference I could tell was an additional ridiculous epilogue from a flower fairy's POV which was completely unnecessary and not anything that needed to be read. My original rating and comments below still stand.
---
I gave the first book a slight pass on the insta-love and clumsy world-building, but the second book really didn't start off well, with an immediate forgiveness on the part of the FMC Gabriella. The whole harem really don't communicate very well, and everything falls in place a little too easily for all of them.

Character development was still pretty lacking for a second book, and with Gabriella already having at least 5 mates with barely any backstory on most of the men, I didn't think we were going to learn much more of them at this rate, even in future books. The council and the whole battle with Night monsters was thrown in chaotically without much integration with the whole original academy setting. Gabriella becoming the spokesperson for also swung out of the left field from nowhere and surprised me. For an academy full of supernaturals, we didn't really get much details about classes other than football - power-wise, other than Gabby using her bodysmithing abilities, the most I saw was Grey needing blood regularly. We barely got any actual shifting, smoke magic, or whatever other powers the other men had (which also was not explained much).

This book had quite a lot of typos, and I had issues with world consistency, like the whole - sometimes the men and Gabriella would get the weird hit, and other times they were completely sane. The inconsistency with pacing of intimate relations with each of the men was also weird - sometimes she wanted to hold off like a shy virgin, other times she just went ham.

The smut was hot, but the relationships were very shallow. However, even with all the issues, I'm still curious to check out the next book in the series.

In this book, Gabby finally adds Grey to her harem, and Palmer sort of... comes along for the ride? I still feel that Palmer's explanation for what happened at the party was weak and didn't really make sense to me. Like, one minute he's so gone over Gabby and so into her that he's making all these over-the-top gestures, and then the next it's like a switch was flipped and can put her aside and forget her? I don't get it.

Again, we didn't get enough of his background to understand why he had acted the way he had, like why he would be drawn to alcohol. "Alcoholism runs in my family" is not a good reason for anything; it's not like there's an alcoholic gene, so this just feels like the author didn't carefully think this through. Palmer says, "As soon as I start drinking it's like I'm invincible, like everything is good and fun and people like me." What's not explored is why he has a need to feel that way. Why does he otherwise lack confidence? But he doesn't seem to lack confidence, or he wouldn't have done made those ostentatious gestures to court Gabby. Were the gestures a way of compensating for something? Does he secretly think he's not likeable? What???

I didn't feel that Gabby especially liked Palmer as a person or even really wanted him. She never seemed as into him as she was with Foster, whom she noticed and liked from the beginning, or Grey, who almost instantly became her "bestie". Her connection with Palmer seemed merely friendly at best, and her "take it or leave it" attitude with him didn't seem to indicate that she cared whether he was or was not with her. Palmer's grovelling just made him seem pathetic, and coincidentally, Pearson, another guy with a 'P' initial, also appeared pathetic, the way he obsessed over Gabby and mooned over her when he'd hardly exchanged two words with her and knew nothing about her.

It hardly makes sense that Pearson had had such a hard time getting in touch with Gabby or finding her on campus, considering that everyone's attention had been focused on her because she was the first bodysmith to attend the Academy. She ate lunch in the cafeteria with her friends and attended classes; even though they weren't in the same classes surely Pearson would have been able to ask around and find out what classes she has. Plus he knew she's on the cheerleading team, it would have been pretty easy to track her down or get a schedule of the cheerleading practices. I just didn't believe that he hadn't been able to find her. It made me feel that perhaps he hadn't tried hard enough to get hold of her.

Pearson seems an afterthought in this story, honestly. The author introduced him to us in Book 1 and then he just dropped out of the picture entirely, and it's almost like the author forgot about him and then suddenly had to find a way to re-insert him into the story so that he could become one of the harem.

I thought the messaging back and forth between Gabby and Chicken_nuggets_are_life was cute and fun and I loved that she had that connection with him. I also loved finding out who he was. In a way, I felt like she knew him and Grey the best out of all the harem because they had the most conversations or the most time together.

So in this book, Madison, another conduit at the school, who has been obnoxious to Gabby from Book 1, finally gets her comeuppance. I cheered. I liked how that was done. She really deserved what she got. Then her mom makes a complaint to the council, saying that Gabby used her magical gifts to harm one of the supernatural community... yes, let's talk about that whole thing with the council.

In summary, I cheered when Grey was added to the harem, felt meh about Palmer and Pearson, thought the whole council thing was hella weird and didn't fit. The end.

Second Glances picks up right where book 1 left off, and the Cyrus quickly mends the issue. This story has more steaminess to it. Gabby adds a couple more guys to her circuit, and I was really happy about one. With all of the steamy times, I found it a little harder to get to know the guys. This is a fun, steamy, easy read. I will definitely be watching for the third book because I really want to find out what the goddess has in store for Gabby and the guys.

Gabbi is slowly meeting all of her mates, but the Goddess plays a trick on her and get her more conduits marks for more mates. Let's say that Gabbi doesn't take it too well. In this book the relationship between Gabbi and her mates deepens and she finds out more about her role in the Goddess' plan against the Night.

Gabbi makes me laugh so much, and I thought this book was better than book 1. However, the writing still doesn't hook me in completely, and I think it needs an editor to give it a look.

There's A LOT of boning in this book and whilst I typically find that annoying, in this book I don't. It's surprisingly funny, too. I'm still having issues with figuring out who's speaking at times, but maybe my brain is playing tricks on me (wouldn't be the first time)?

Anyways. Guess I'll start on book 3 now.

Mates Fated Bonded -- Gabby's surrounded

Wow wheat a whirlwind of a ride, a few twists and turns but the mostly instant RH bonded group is hilarious and only a little sappy. The euphoric high a la group sex is laugh out loud funny. Gabby is strong, kind, and values a deep connection rather than the high status of a conduit w her many mate marks.

I enjoyed the first book and the plot but then I got to the second book. *sigh*
I got 20% in and stopped.

I noticed there were a lot more spelling and grammar issues in the book than were in the first. There are quite a few places where words aren’t in their proper places.

I didn’t like how Palmer turned out and Pearson just isn’t surround.

I also didn’t like the whole Cyrus direction. He mates her, runs off spouting it’s to protect her, goes to his boyfriend of 20 years and is with him until his brother forces him to be with the FMC and her guys. She finds out and is all good with it. Fated mates and it’s ok. It’s also ok for him to be with her other mates as long as they are mates to her. This isn’t RH. There is a difference between Polyamory & Polygamy. I hate when MM is put in an RH in the RH relationship. To me it’s cheating. RH is a FMC and ALL the guys are into her and her only. Having other relationships makes it non RH. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So at 20% in the second book I see it’s going to be a bigger part and I DNF it. I check every RH book I start for MM warnings and reviews and didn’t see any. I tend to steer away from authors who don’t have a warning stating there is MM in the RH.

Ok....

At first, this series had a really amazing storyline. Then things just got childish. The humor, at times, fit. The author needs an editor in the worst possible way. Palmer. Pearson. I thought they were the same person. I still don’t quite understand the plot. Oh and the whole “here are more mates for you” trope was so childishly written. I felt like I was watching Oprah. “you get a mate! You get a mate.” It is absolutely not worth reading the next book unless you want poor grammar, poor editing, and a silly plot.

As much as I loved the first book, this one took a bit of a dive for me. The dialogue was really cheesy. There isn’t Much character development and the insta-love is a bit much. But, it is a very intriguing storyline and if the writing were cleaned up a bit, this would be an amazing book.

I started this, but its a DNF for me.

I liked book one enough that I was interested in seeing where this was going to go, but I became disinterested pretty quickly. It started taking turns that I didn't care for, and I felt like it had quite a few grammatical errors. This will not be a series I continue with.

DNF 73%.

i feel like i would've finished this series if i hadn't read such amazing RHs these past few weeks. like ive REALLY been on a roll when it comes to finding RH masterpieces. and this one had such potential, and i loved parts of it. some parts were entertaining as fuck, and some of the steamy scenes were hotter than id expected.
but i don't think I'll ever pick this series up again.

notes for the future, if i ever think of reading this again:

• 90% of the heroine's personality is that she's hot. and she's not just hot - she's the most attractive person any of these people have ever seen. she's also a master of combat, knife-throwing, etc. etc. basically, she's the best. at /everything/. AND now it turns out she's, like, the queen of all supernaturals ?? and their goddess speaks through her? so yeah, a lot of the plot is just her being a badass, and the most beautiful woman in the world.

• the plot is a bit weirdly paced. the author makes some weird choices irt what is worth showing the reader and what should just be skipped and then briefly recapped.
the heroine can ramble on and on and ON about a chain of events that the reader has already read about, yet when the heroine meets the mother of one of the Hs for the first time (through a video call) we don't get to actually read about it directly other than the hero's thoughts about it ("then they talked about this and that, and my mother loved her"). like, okay??? that was a pretty big moment and i personally would've loved to hear what they actually said to each other. and this kind of thing happened a lot. if a scene wouldn't show how much of a badass the heroine is, or how perfect she is, but would've just shown that she's a person who can talk to other people normally, then it's skipped over.

• palmer is apparently becoming one of the Hs instead of being friendzoned like it had been HEAVILY implied in the previous book. i don't mind when a hero fucks up and then gets back into the heroine's good graces but not when i feel like the plan had really been for them to just be friends, and then the author changed her mind in this book. because now i have a hard time seeing him as one of the heroine's men.

• the heroes..... they're okay. but they are so absolutely worshipful of the heroine that it seems a bit much sometimes. sometimes im like, do they even see her as a PERSON or is she so high up on a pedestal that she's basically a goddess to them?? they seem so desperate for her (especially palmer) that i found myself cringing a couple times. it might be a side effect of the author having written the Most Perfect Heroine Ever Who Has Zero Flaws And Is Queen Of The World Somehow.
also worth noting - i tend to like feral, alpha, intimidating heroes, and these... are not it lmao. even the ones who have been warriors for a hundred years and kill monsters in their spare time seem too tame and bland. i THOUGHT the hero Dar would be different because he came across as arrogant and a tad aggressive in his first scene. but even he turned puppy dog after five minutes with the heroine. too boring for me.
with such a powerful heroine, the heroes should've been written as more capable and alpha than they have been. or else it results in this: a too-badass, too-perfect (as in she doesn't even have a gag reflex, like when i say she has NO flaws i mean absolutely NO flaws) heroine with puppy dog heroes who want nothing more than her attention.

• and the thing about the heroes is that they all actually have REALLY COOL powers too !!!! and we just never hear a fucking ting about it because if it's not the /heroine/ being awesome then it's not mentioned. like, foster is a shifter, and NOT ONCE have we read about him actually shifting. the heroine hasn't met a shifter before him (if i remember correctly), but she's never shown interest in seeing him shift. like, uhm, sweetie, your husband can change into a wolf and you DON'T have an overwhelming urge to see it so you can pet him ??? ok......

• BUT one great thing about this series is that it's basically 99% about the harem- and relationship-building. my past problems with the academy PNR RH subgenre is that the romantic plot is 9 out of 10 times overshadowed by the Let's Save The World plot. that can't be said about this series. which is why i, again, gotta say that a month ago i probably would've devoured this series and been able to ignore the flaws. but honestly after Hunted by Erica Woods... my standards are just so high right now.

RH (11 mates - yes you read that correctly)/Supernatural

SYNOPSIS (of 4 book series): The story is set in the real world but where humans and supernaturals exist together. The FC, Gabby, is a body smith (basically a succubus) who is also a sculptor (able to change her own appearance and the appearance of others). She discovers she is also a Conduit (someone who must mate with others and whose power will then increase). As a Conduit she must attend Hemlock Academy where her father is headmaster. Whilst there she meets her mates and discovers that she is a Conduit Supreme - the queen of all Conduits with a direct line to the Goddess. As such she must fight the Night which is trying to consume her soul and take over the world in order to become all powerful. The books cover the FC’s meeting and bonding with her mates (11 of them) whilst dealing with bullies and the Night. There is a HEA.

Heat level is 🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆🍆🍆🍆 which means that I did not find the descriptions particularly hot or sexy but there were a lot of sex scenes to the extent that Book 4 is pretty much just sex - I was very much skim reading by the time I got to Book 4. If I wanted to read bad porn then I would!

Be warned, there are just so many editing issues and typos in this series. It’s one of the worse edited stories I’ve read and that’s saying a lot. Other than the editing issues the writing and dialogue is fairly juvenile and there isn’t really much of a story. In fact the main story seems to end at Book 3 but then there‘s a whole additional Book 4. The story arc is essentially: girl has a lot of sex, gets bullied, has a lot of sex, defeats the bad guy, has a lot of sex, becomes all powerful and saves the world (despite providing no evidence as to why she is so impressive), has a lot of sex …. As with many series these days the first Book starts off with promise and then there is just a rapid slide downwards to Book 4 which I found to be a complete waste of time.

The author introduces multiple „humorous“ scenes which she clearly finds amusing. Unfortunately to me they came across as childish and immature. For example, the descriptions of the Night and his monologuing are painful to read as is the scene where Gabby decides to push her chair back and do a basic instinct in the middle of the council office, or her mates taking the mickey out of vegans or the cliffhanger to Book 3. Having Gabby declared Conduit Supreme and she and all her mates immediately replacing the existing council despite not even finishing school and having no experience sets the level of the story just sums up how juvenile the writing is. Not to mention the constant monologuing by characters which just sounds preachy and immature.

This story is supposed to be set in a magic world but actually magic has no real part in the story and the characters could all be human for what the magic actuallly adds. The author also doesn’t really bother to explain most of the powers that each of the characters have which just makes things more confusing as this is not a conventional supernatural world with shifters, vampires and mages. There are these types of supers but there are also a lot of other types. The FC starts off as a strong female and was engaging. Unfortunately she just becomes what she was apparently trying to avoid which is just interested in sex, sex and more sex with some juvenile bad language thrown in as she tries to act like a queen. There is little development of any of the character‘s backgrounds or the world in which the story takes place. It is relatively superficial and I found it hard to get into any of the characters or care about what was happening.

The finale of Book 3 with the Night came across as ridiculous as did the ending. Honestly, I’m not sure what the point of the Night was as he never really manifested as a real villain. He was more an idiot than a villain with no real adversarial story line. One minute he’s there and then he’s gone. What was the point? I’m also unclear why no one was interested in finding out why the Night suddenly became more powerful or how he did what he did. It all came out of the blue and was very manufactured.

In conclusion, this series was a big disappointment and each book worse than the previous one. The FC was one dimensional and honestly, 11 mates just sums up that this was more an excuse for sex than a real story. It‘s really not worth the effort, sorry.

My Thoughts
As with any sequel, this book brings more to the table than the last as the goddess makes herself known as an actual presence or entity. Gabriella is faced with actively seeking her other mates and managing her relationships. She's also finally accepting her new lot in life, thought admittedly she's not given much choice.

About the Characters
Gabriella handles things with grace and rolls with the changes that come at her. We also see more of her fun and mischievous side. Dar continues to prove he's much more than his initial impression. He's a protective badass and a font of information. Cyrus makes up for how he left things at the end of the last book and proves how devoted he is and will be forever. Despite also being a badass, he's softer in some ways than his brother. Foster shows he's so much more than the shy boy Gabriella first met. He's the dirtiest talker of the bunch. Balfour is her foundation. He is whole heartedly supportive and understanding. Grey seems almost like a sad note at first, but that turns around and promises more sweet fun. Palmer admits to his demons, makes a determined choice to be better, and engages the necessary groveling to get back into Gabriella's good graces. He doesn't give up on her. Pearson comes off as a bit of a spoiled rich kid, but he seems light hearted for the most part, fun, and like he'd fit right in with the others.

Things I Liked
I love the dynamics among the harem. Gabriella, a little exasperated or not at the sheer number of mates, doesn't fight her destiny. There's no jealousy among the guys or attempts to "keep things even". They do what they feel. What family members we meet are great. It was in this book that I finally caught on to the significance of Dar and Cyrus's last name bringing a smile to my face, but I will leave that for you to find. The sex "drunk" antics are beyond entertaining.

Things I Didn't Like
Time sneaks along until suddenly weeks have gone by leaving me feeling lost for a moment. Palmer and Pearson both endear themselves, but flirt with the line between cute and creepy before Gabriella accepts them officially. I get that the "Night" things is our overall conflict, but it's just not a story arc that I'm feeling yet. Gabriella gets a chance to be a protective badass, but past that I need more definition for it to feel compelling.

More Thoughts
As things ramped up and things with the guys progressed, I couldn't put it down. I had to see how things played out with so many mates, the tease of some MM action, and what they all mean to the bigger picture.

Does it stand alone?
Given the way it ended, this appears to be a series meant to be read in order.

Bottom Line
While I can't say I'm utterly in love with the book (and series), I can say that I've enjoyed the hell out of it as some fun sexy reading.

A quick descent into silliness

The first book was okay, if not a bit “wacky” and the second just takes the plunge straight into silly. There’s a big difference between funny and wacky and silly. It’s disappointing because there’s so much potential in the actual story, but it descends into juvenile silliness instead. These are supposedly young adults in their early to late twenties (with a couple centenarians thrown in for funsies), but they’re written like teenagers. Every moment that could be used for dramatic effect is basically squandered by being undercut by really dumb s3x jokes or somebody perving on somebody else at inappropriate times. Any plot point that should be exploited for dramatic effect by drawing it out is instead resolved within a few paragraphs. If I were a person whose life was subject to the ruling of the people, I would definitely consider moving somewhere else. And I’m not one to complain usually about smut, but probably 75% of this book is smexy scenes and they’re fairly repetitive because our Mary Sue FMC and her dorky, ridiculous MMCs don’t work up to anything. This is definitely an example of where less would be more.

There’s a tiny bit of MM, with more to come in future books, I assume. There’s a little OM drama, that would have been delicious to read a little more of, but instead it’s resolved in the first chapter. The twists are obvious and you can see them coming way off. Also, there are a lot of grammar issues/proofing errors/typos and just all around weird and awkward wording. There was also a lot of confusion caused by the lack of tags in spoken dialog. When there are more than two people in a conversation, it is frequently difficult to figure out who is saying what, especially when it’s the MMCs.

I was definitely disappointed in the direction the author went - not the plot, although it is scant - but with the complete lack of seriousness. How are we, the readers, supposed to be invested in the characters and their problems, if nothing is taken seriously in the text? It’s just OTT and not in a good way. A good book doesn’t have to have angst to be interesting, but it does have to take itself at least a little seriously. Humor is meant to relieve the tension of the underlying drama of the plot, but instead there is no tension whatsoever.

So, this series is really fun and keeping me pretty invested so far.
I absolutely adore Gabby and her growing harem of utterly delectable supernatural men.
I’ve been completely engrossed with the relationship building portion of the book, that I barely noticed that there wasn’t a real “villain” until the second book.

We are introduced to the Night, whatever/whoever that is; and all we know, is that it sends evil smoke creatures to try and attack Gabby and her men with the goal of preventing her from completing her circuit of men.
She’s extremely powerful and if she succeeds in this, she will be able to take down the Night.
I’m hoping we get a bit more of an explanation on that…

Gabby is heir to the conduit goddess, if I’m on the right track here; and we find out that this gives her the ability to strip conduits of their status and tattoos, which she does to Madison, that little bitch.
Thank the gods, she’s an absolute gnat.
After this little stunt Gabby is kidnapped and taken the council for a punishment, only for her to relieve them all of their positions, in favour of her and her men.
So badass.
When she walked in with a crown forged from the metal of her cell so nonchalant, I may have fallen in love right then.

The writing is a big part of the reason why I’m getting through these books as quickly as I am; the humour, sarcasm, and wit mixed into the steamy and emotionally heavy moments is actually perfection.
I rarely laugh out loud to a book and this one has me giggling, and or screeching with glee left and right.
Big, big fan of that kind of reading experience.

The ending was completely unexpected and just adds to the wonderful slow build nature of the harem; we find out that Gabby is bound to have another 2 extra mates!!
That’s 10 all together y’all and when I tell you I’m fucking thrilled about this development.
I couldn’t be more excited for the addition of two new mystery men, the more the merrier I always say!

~4 stars~

This book really picks up in both the steam department and the plot department. Things kind of take off at a breakneck pace after the “misunderstanding” with Robert* and don’t really settle down the entire book. It makes for a very fast read that’s hard to put down.

*the Robert thing… I don’t think Cyrus did enough apology wise; he didn’t even grovel. Worse yet, Gabby apologizes to HIM after his former lover verbally punched her in the face AND plucked every single insecurity in his catty-bitch-fit. She just accepts his apology for being gone through the week and then accepts his ring. It was unsatisfying. However Robert being eaten by a giant centipede later WAS a nice touch.

Back to the things I liked. Again, the men. I really love the way they dote on her, the way they protect her, the way they cherish her and each have their own thing. I don’t know how it’s going to carry with even more men being added, 6 was a lot, 8 was a LOT, 10 seems excessive? But we’ll see! I freakin love Foster, Bal, and Grey… and Pearson has potential and I’m glad Palmer groveled and apologized and did his super cute date night thing AND still didn’t feel completely worthy of Gabby — THAT is how you make up for shitty mistakes. We’ll see how he does in the big leagues with the rest of the mates.

I’m SO glad that Queen Bee-otch got knocked down quite a few pegs, as did her mother, and basically the entire council. Things are moving super fast in the external plot parts; goddess interference, council take over, nasty creatures attacking, Roberts attempted revenged, and whoever the hell the Night is. There’s a LOT going on that will need to be answered in the next two books. But I look forward to it. Gabby has grown a lot and isn’t quite as cringey and I genuinely like her harem lol

It’s like a comedy movie I promise🤣

Okay so I haven’t done a review in a long time. Here goes nothing. To start there is only one reason I rated it a four and not a five! I got so confused when the characters were talking. Half the time it doesn’t say who it is and you just have to figure it out yourself. Other times it’ll go from one paragraph(not a whole paragraph 🤣)of dialogue from one person and then continue for another three more of the same person. I wish it was all just in one. Or at least make it clear that the same person is still talking. “He continues” or something along those lines. It was just really confusing. But with that said, I absolutely love the first two books so far! It made me laugh and cry happily. I love the character and I love how Gabby’s personality doesn’t change at all throughout the books. I will say all the guys are a bit to feminine for me personally but every writer writes POV differently. To me all they guys kinda had the same personality when it came to their POV, but when it was Gabby’s POV I could see the differences. *spoiler* Bal with his intelligence and compassion. Foster with his nerdy and dirtiness 🤤. Cyrus with his bold and protective. Dar with his confidence and charisma. Palmer with his playful and adventurous. Grey with his friendliness and seductive. Pearson with his (well I don’t know much about him yet..) anyways I do wish their personalities would be more pronounced(I think that’s the word🤷🏼‍♀️) when I read their POV. But all in all I do really like this series and I can’t wait to read the next book after I finish typing this sentence.

Once again LOVED the pace of this book.

Gabbie now has too many mates i can’t even count 😂

The professor : 1st book mating
Cyrus : royalty 1st book mating
Foster: shy wolf 1st book mating
Dar: also royalty, brother to Cyrus 1st book mating
Grey: vampire, mated while feeding from gabby, he is her roommate and wasn’t telling her his problem with drinking other blood but had feelings from the jump.
Palmer: playboy drunk from first book who thought he ruined his chances but was given another chance by Gabbie to redeem himself. Mated her in a group orgy after she started her period and grey went all vampire weird about her blood.
Pearson: newest addition to the group and not sure if he’s mated yet. But he is her counselors son and is head over heels obsessed but can’t ever get time with her. He proclaims everything at the end of the book but then the goddess announces herself in the mirror and tells her she is getting two more mates and that she just needs to accept Pearson and the other two already. She also said that she is giving her a bunch more power since all the monsters are coming at her heavy now.

She was attacked in public by the monsters when she was with Pearson and had to fight her way to get him back from them. Cyrus’s ex Robert was in on the attack but was ate during it by a giant word.

Gabby is the secret conduit. With her six mate marks, she's already the most powerful conduit in modern times but now she also has her 2 fated mates. Dar and Cyrus have been searching for her for 100 years and fighting off the monsters of the Night. They are pressing her to finish her mate circuit so that she's safe from the Night, who wants her magic. Until she has all of her mates, she and the world are in danger.

This review is similar to the first. The writing needs polishing. There are too many errors again, basic grammar, misused words, spelling, missing words, tense changes, and typos. The character names are being confused and it's never clear who is speaking. The author has maybe bitten off too much with this large of a harem. It's hurting the connections. There continues to be a good amount of humor saving the book in my opinion. More humor, more conversations, more story, and less sex. The story is starting to be overtaken by sex scenes. There is still no plot or any explanation for conduits. Finally, the battle with the villain was anti-climatic because there had been too little development building up to the fight. He seemed more the petty, jealous ex-lover than a true threat. Details matter.
