A new paranormal romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller Jaymin Eve.

My father made a terrible mistake. One I’m left paying for.

As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill our leader, I’m labelled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt.

When I can't take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don't like losing their punching bag. Torin, the leader’s son, drags me back before my first shift... a shift that will reveal my true mate. I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

Afterall, no one ever rejects their true mate, right?

Wrong. Very wrong.

When the wolves attack, my soul screams for vengeance, and somehow I touch the shadow world.

Somehow I bring him to our lands.

The Shadow Beast. Our shifter god. The devil himself.

Turns out being rejected by my mate was only the beginning.

*If you like sexy, dark paranormal romances, with humor, steam, action, a tough heroine and an antihero, this is for you. Rejected is full length (100k) words, is book one of three in Shadow Beast Shifters series, and ends on a cliffhanger. It's recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations.

So repetitive I thought it was groundhog day

If you've read this book to say 65%, then you've read the entire book. Nothing else happens except little differences in the drama from the first half.

This book is about the heroine who's been abused by her entire pack due to the sins of her father, she lays low and still gets physically abused. Her plan is to run away and finally be free of them. She escapes and lives alone for a few months until she's hunted down and brought back to her pack. When she gets there, she finds out that her true mate is one of the guys that have tormented her for years, though her wolf is interested in him, the guy tells her that he doesn't want her as a true mate , her heart is broken even though she hates him and wants nothing to do with him.

They basically imprison her but she finds a way to escape. She gets caught and her mates father who is the alpha implies that he's going to take her as his whore, she screams for the Shadowbeast who is the creator of the shifters and somehow he appears and whisk her away.

He takes her to another world and tells her that when she called for him she released several demons so she has to get them back or he's going to kill her. Since she's heard threats like that all her life she isn't fazed but she agrees to help him.

During one of the journey she sees her mate and her wolf wants him even though she doesn't. She also has a best friend who also hates her and torments her as well and he starts acting weirdly nice. For no reason at all. He acts nice and then acts like a douche , blame her for him being so douchey and then acts nice again, so I wasn't sure what was going on.

She catches the escaped demons and her true mate tries to kidnap her anytime she's on Earth, he eventually does and he ties her to the bed and has sex with one of his pack mate right in front of her and yet her wolf still wants him. I don't understand this book.

That's how the book goes, that is literally what happened in the entire book, rewind it several times to bulk it up and you have the book.

Peoples emotion were all over the place, first they have this visceral hate then all of a sudden they are very contrite and acting very nice and then 2 seconds later it starts all over again. There is no romance between the Beastlord and the heroine, there's not even any sexual chemistry so I don't know how its going to work in the second book.

If the beastlord is the creator of the shifters you'd think that he would be able to sever the bond between the heroine and her true mate, instead we have to see her wolf lust over the guy that treated her like literally crap and tossed her to the side when having a true mate is something that is sacred.

This book was like my review, all over the place. If there was a book 2 I might have jumped on it even though the ending was cringeworthy. I can bet nothing happens except some screaming or silent treatment. As it happens, I might still check it out if I remember to or else this is it.

Another one bites the dust...
When I said for the rejecter to grovel, I wanted him to grovel really hard and be able to win her back, not for the heroine to find herself a NEW guy 😪

Stupid expectations aside, I tried not to let this cloud the rest of the book, and even though I'm still a bit disappointed I can't deny that I kinda liked her raising above all her bullies and getting herself a guy who's even higher up the food chain lmao
I don't know why I never even considered the Shadow Beast to become the love interest. I just assumed he'd be the evil entity the h and H had to fight or something. It's my own damn fault but honestly, this is not even the reason why I wasn't able to finish this book.

I was just sooo bored with it. The beginning was okayish but after she got kidnapped by the Shadow Beast I started losing interest. Along with the romance being slow-burn, the plot was incredibly slow-paced too. The heroine does nothing but work in the library or mouth off to people with her "sass". Being in her head all the time was exhausting as hell and after reading half the book I still have no idea where this book is actually going.

I really tried but I just couldn't do it anymore. This book is a snoozefest.

Gawd, a rejected mate novel.

I want this to hurt...

And then I want him to grovel hardcore...

Please let it be like this 🙇‍♀️🤞

This ends on a freaking cliffhanger. I find those intolerable. They're the ultimate FU to your readers. I'd return the book if I could and I regret every minute I wasted on this.

That's not absolute, I should note. Leaving some story elements in play can be fine, particularly in a genre like UF where things build over time. But this ends in the middle of rising action, with a huge pile of jeopardy on our heroine, and with the core relationship dynamic shattered. It's like if someone said "Leaving some story elements open can increase reader engagement as long as you either leave the main character in a place of refuge, close an important story arc, or have a stable relationship if it has romance elements." and Jaymin Eve heard that and went "Nah, I really hate my readers and emotional investment will be through the roof if I put it all in the cliffhanger!"

Seriously, at least part of this review and one star is so that I'll notice in future if one of her books crops up that I'm interested in so that I'll know to give it a hard pass.

this book is, in essence, one huge manic episode

one second a character is a certain way, the next second they aren't

is there romance in this? no.
is there porn in this? sure, for like 3 pages.
are there consistent and good characters in this? no.
is there a love interest? that depends what you consider a "love" interest

everyone is praising the heroine but damn yall,,, she's stupid af and fits into "im angry but look at all these hot guys!!! i hate him but i also wanna fuck him!!! why do i want him soooo bad!!!" STEREOTYPE

and, look, if this were a story of a woman earning her independence, confidence and power back that'd be one thing, but in this FIRST BOOK's narrative, it's more-so about which guy treats her the shittiest and which guy is (still shitty) but ooh he's hot and there's another side to him that he shows once per 100 pgs~~~

they're all shit. they're all massively ooc. the heroine is the only consistent character and even then she's not worth finishing the book for. also that ending & the fact that this is a duology/trilogy???? ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Unsure How I Feel*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

*Contain Spoilers* We all know I'm shallow. Especially if you have read my reviews. You know the main male character is the most important one for me. I need him to be the baddest, the sexiest, the most powerful. And I most definitely didn't like that there seem to quite a few that has just as much power as Shadow, if not more, in this book. It seemed pretty obvious to me that Mera, once she's fully embraced her destiny, she'll become either more powerful than him or his equal. Which each person that might be just as powerful or more than Shadow, I kinda lost interested a bit, feeling like Shadow become... less. Less powerful, less unique. I hate when a book is so predictable. I want the male to be at the top, the number one most powerful. But yeah, I'm not surprised that Mera will be more powerful (my expectations sadly). This is sadly - for me - how most authors write their characters these days.

From the ashes, the phoenix will rise.

As for the story, it was interesting. I love shifter book, and I love the enemies to lovers theme. And while I know Mera was supposed to be presented as sassy, she felt more as a chatty girl than anything else. Shadow was supposed to be this all powerful god, yet he as was easily taken down by Torin and Jaxson. I don't like the love-triangle that MIGHT happen in next book. And I feel less excited for book two (and three) considering how this book ended. I know I seem shallow, and I am when it comes to books, I just need my man to be more powerful, more dominate and alpha male, and more dangerous than the female. It's just that simple. Some can write a couple perfect, where the balance of the power between the two is so well written (Kate and Curran; Kate Daniels), but most nowadays is focused on making the female better than everyone and everything else. And while that is great in real world, it's not how I want the books I read to be. The male is what draws me in, the female is a bonus to me. Overall, I did like the book, I just had hope for more, but thankfully I had my expectations low. 3 stars is not a bad rating considering the length of the book and that not much actually happened.

Characters:
The list is long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (A) Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy (M/F)
Series: - Series, Book One.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Shadow Beast.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Yes.
Will I read this again in the future? - Probably not.
Rating - 3 stars.

Unpopular rating, but here we go.
This book wasn’t bad, I just found it repetitive and a little boring. I couldn’t get into it.

Mera has been abused by her pack for the last few years because of her father’s crime. He decided to challenge the Alpha and died for it, and Mera has been the victim of nasty bullies ever since. After she tries and fails to escape, she finds out that her true mate is none other than the Alpha’s son, and he wastes no time rejecting her in front of everyone. That is when Mera decides that she’s had enough of their bullshit, and calls the Shadow Beast. She didn’t expect him to reply to her summons, but here he is, ready to take her with him, because he sensed something special in her, and she was able to touch the Shadow Realm, which shouldn’t be possible.

When I picked up this book, I was expecting some intense groveling, due to the rejected mate part… I was not expecting the main character to just find herself a new dude and all but forget about her mate (even though she hated him), while said mate continued with his life and was seldom heard from again, except in the last 20%. I am not sure what I was thinking, because it was obvious that Mera would end up with the Shadow Beast if we look at the cover and blurb, but I was still expecting more angst and hurt. The fact that her true mate treated her like shit for years, and rejected her multiple times, but her wolf still wants him was also annoying after a while.

The beginning of the book was interesting, but it got boring once Mera was abducted by the Shadow Beast. She just spent her days working in his huge library, eating with her new friend, and wondering how she could get her hand on a vibrator or get laid. The writing was also repetitive at times (ex. “we have a mutual friend in common”).

Mera’s “sass” comes across more as a lack of self-preservation and basic survival instinct than a cool and badass attitude. I loved it when she stood up to her bullies at the beginning, and her resilience and witty comebacks were great, but dealing with shifter bullies is not the same as dealing with the Shadow Beast, and I don’t think sassing him from the very beginning was very clever. She just proved my point later in the book with her whole “if he wants to kill me, he’ll just kill me so I might as well be sarcastic and sassy about it” attitude. Overall, her character didn’t grow throughout the book, and at times she felt quite juvenile, despite being 22 years old.

The relationships between Mera and the other characters felt shallow, sadly. She has a BFF in her hometown, Simone, but after the first chapter, we never see her again. Instead, Mera makes a new bestie where she is now living, but I just don’t feel their bond. It was a case of being told and not shown I guess… I am also not sure why we were introduced to Shadow’s friends, they were not that relevant to the plot.

Shadow (because we never learn the true name of the Shadow Beast, so she just calls him Shadow and everyone takes to it) is the definition of hot and cold, but sadly, I didn’t care much for him. Sure, there is some sexual tension between Mera and him, and there are a few spicy moments too, but besides his nice accent and mysterious aura, he wasn’t that interesting or attractive to me. I also didn’t feel the chemistry between him and Mera, their relationship (because I wouldn’t call that a romance, at all) felt forced and was bland.

It ends with a mild cliffhanger, and the next book has the potential to be interesting and to have more angst maybe, but I don’t think I will be reading it. I just don’t really care about the characters, and I don’t feel like reading another 400-page book about them.

Interesting read, unique world building, and fun magical lore...but the characters were kind of over the top for me. However, I was slightly feeling the budding romance going on.

Okay so bit of a backstory now that my brain isn't so tired--

Mera is our 22 year old h- who is on the cusp of her first change into a full blown wolf on the upcoming new moon. When this happens, not only will she be transforming for the first time but she might also discover who her new mate is.

However, in this pack Mera is the lowest on the totem pole. This is because 10 years ago her father tried- and failed- to kill the narcissistic and dominating Alpha of the pack. Because of this she has been beaten and harassed by all of her pack mates for the last decade.

Image

Mera has been waiting for the day that she turns to finally learn how to control her wolf- then to escape her shitty pack. However, on the new moon she finds out that her worst fear has come true. Not only is her new mate a member of her awful pack- but its the son of the Alpha, Torin.

This obviously- does not go down well with anyone- especially her new mate- who rejects her. Mera isn't to happy either-but the pain her wolf experiences from this is enough for her to explode with emotion (and to discover a possible power she never knew she had)
Image

This powerful reaction then brings Mera to the attention of a powerful and deadly entity known to the shifters only as the Shadow Beast. Not caring if she's being rescued or carried to her death- Mera jumps at the chance to get the hell away from her 'new mate' and pack to go with Shadow.

However, she doesn't know exactly what Shadow wants with her but at this point is willing to go with the flow. With this new (and very sexy) enemy/ally to compete with Mera discovers that there is a world of possibilities awaiting her, and that she might be more important than anyone knows.

But my problem was that almost everyone was so dang flip-floppy every other second, and their motivations made no sense half the time. It felt like everyone was constantly doing an emotional 180 or they were simply just emotionally inept.

description

I don't know man- but I probably will read the next one because that cliffhanger has me super intrigued and I'm really enjoying the magic system and multiple worlds we got going on.

This is the first book in an imaginative new series involving shifters gods and being from alternate worlds.
It’s very original and an easy page-turner it’s told from the POV of Mera Callahan a wolf shifter just approaching her first shift.

Mera hasn’t had it easy due to her father's actions against the pack alpha she’s practically been an outcast and the whipping boy for all the members of the pack.

She faces daily abuses and taunts her only friends Simone another young shifter and Dannie a mysterious newcomer.
Her mother has retreated into herself and is blood useless, Mera just longs to escape her life within the pack even if that means her wolf going feral, which is what she attempts to do a few weeks before her first transformation.

Brutally dragged back against her will Mera’s first shift reveals her true mate and when he publicly rejects her the anguish she feels taps into the shadow world unintentionally releasing that reality into this current one.
It also heralds the arrival of a much greater threat the shadow beast himself the big-man himself the creator and god of all their species.

Finding herself the prisoner of this powerful entity Mera’s life is literally in his hands she has an ability he wants to take advantage of she can open the veil between the shadow worlds a door that has been closed for aeons the only problem Mera doesn’t know how she did it in the first place or even how to replicate it.
Now a guest of the shadow beast he and Mira must work together if that is he doesn’t end up killing her first.

I adored Mera her ability to rise above her abuse and come out fighting was refreshing she is her own saviour in that regard.
She doesn’t let the bastards grind her down and she can sure hold a grudge.
She’s also fiercely loyal to those she cares about and is snarky as all hell in fact that’s her defence mechanism when the going gets tough she only gets sassier.

I am so glad she stood firm against Torin and Jaxson I wanted to commit bloody blue murder on her behalf especially regarding Jaxson his past with Mera almost making his actions so much worse no matter how much of a change of heart he’s had or how much he tries to justify himself his previous behaviour towards her not cool man and I really hope Mera doesn’t backtrack and forgive him.
No amount of backtracking on his part could convince me otherwise. Torin is also a complete tool but he’s always been one so It’s kinda expected.
Anyway, they're both on my eat shit and die list and have no chance of getting off it anytime soon.

Now shadow he’s an enigma a powerful entity who’s used to absolute compliance and control.
He’s unwillingly curious and slightly fascinated by Mera as much as she annoys him he’s also intrigued by her we don’t really get to know him and learn what makes him tick quite yet but the picture regarding him is definitely getting clearer I’m certainly curious and want
to dig deeper.

This was fun fast-paced and very original it was well written and extremely engaging.
I’m definitely on board for book two and can’t wait to dive in shortly.

This book rocked my world and I need more!

Mera is my new favorite heroine of Jaymin’s! She’s strong, loyal and has ovaries of steel (balls have nothing on ovaries). She really has this inner strength that you will absolutely love along with a sassy as fuck attitude. I was giggling and cheering her on throughout the book.

Plus this world guys. OMG it’s amazing and I know Jaymin’s only briefly showed us everything in this first book (which I’m crossing my fingers for future spinoffs). There are so many characters that you fall in love with. And of course Jaymin has a lead man that will not only make you melt but will also make you want to shake him on occasion.

This book was EVERYTHING I expected and more from Jaymin Eve. She writes such engaging and lovable characters that you won’t want the book to end (I know I sure didn’t). I’m just so excited for this series because nobody writes PNR like Jaymin.

I picked this book up on a whim. One of my favorite authors recommended it in her group and it was free with kindle unlimited, so I thought, “why not?” My goal of branching out and reading more new to me authors has served me very well this year and this fun read is no exception!

Here’s what I enjoyed:
Mera Callahan is a fan-freaking-tastic character! I live for bold and brave female who refuse to take crap from anyone, especially the alphaholes who seek to rule them. Mera embodies those traits, plus she’s funny to boot. Total girl crush on her.

The world building and creature really grabbed my attention! I felt the author did a great job introducing the reader to a new and excited world. It’s unique and entertaining. I’m looking forward to learning more about the world and it’s inhabitants.

Shadow and Inky kept me on my toes. Let’s be honest, the names, or lack thereof grated a bit, but the Shadow Beast as a character is quite enigmatic. That obviously drew me to him. Lolol

Angel, again with the basic names was a pure and perfect gem. Gah I love her relationship with Mera.

The story, plot, dialogue, and inner monologues were good. Did I mention the book was funny! Mera is a hoot and a half. So much freaking fun!!

Overall, this a great read. I enjoyed the experience and have already marked my calendar for February 1st when book two comes out!

JESTEM ROZCZAROWANA.
Początek zapowiadał taką luźną, trochę odklejoną i głupkowatą książkę. Taki hot wilkołaczy romans bez jakiejś cięższej fabuły do rozkminienia.
No nie polecam.
Zawód ogromny, wolałabym już smut bez fabuły niż to coś pełne luk logicznych. Tam tyle rzeczy nie ma sensu i bierze się z dupy dosłownie…

STORY:
Soooooooooooo ummmm...... this started out twilight and ended Harry Potter. I’ll start by saying, love the concept of this story and with most stories I always have negatives and positives.

The blurb, that’s basically the first 20% of the book. I got shifter, paranormal, rejected shifter mate and catty cat fights. Thennnnnnnnnn.... here comes the shadow beast, and we are now in a different world realm of fairies, vamps and other creatures. This is now more fantasy and magic-ish.

Mera is the main female character and I actually found myself enjoying her. If I rated characters, she hands down would be a 10/5 . She is so sarcastic and even while being in the most dangerous situations, she still manages to let that characteristic come through, and it entertains me. I like the way she conveys the story to me. Mera is 80% why I like this story. As much as I love her, once in the realm of the shadow beast, it dragged sometimes. I did like some parts and some of her interactions with the shadow beast but too many dragging moments while waiting for more. This is one of the issues I have with trilogies, cliffhangers and slow burns. Too much unnecessary information that gives me dragging moments.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
So far only sexual intimacy. Not the actual act yet.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
There are more interesting secondary characters than good so far. As book one introduce us to certain characters that I’m still getting to know. I don’t have a good sense on anyone other than Angel.

OVERALL, the story entices me. I am curious about book two but not sure if I will continue if book two isn’t appealing and feels dragged out.

✰✰TRIGGERS:

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

I'm so confused? The premise was super interesting but nothing really made sense to me. I'm not sure why her true mate dude seemed to come out of nowhere (Torin), especially when there was the clear leadup with Jaxson being her friend in the past and some clear chemistry between them. I also don't understand why the OTHER interest, Shadow, had to be so hot and cold all the time. Kept waiting for that to maybe go somewhere, or for that to be explained, but no.
I just have so many questions? Like why did Torin have his glowup into a non-douchebag just totally off screen? Why did mera think she was betrayed by shadow at the end? What the fuck even happened at the end? Everything was just so unclear, and there were also a few times where it would refer to someone as "he" or by some kind of insult as if I was supposed to just magically figure out who that was. Not going to read the second one, but I almost want to just to figure out why the fuck the plot is the way it is

This book was supposed to be a nice book about shapeshifters, with a lot of omega/beta/alpha drama but instead, it was something else..a mix of boring with a touch of I-hate-my-life.

The book started with the 'rejection' trope and I was interested to find out what will happen. I hoped Torin will grovel or maybe she will find out that her true mate is Jackson but after another guy came into the picture, I lost interest. She was kidnapped by a Shadow who kept her in a room near a library and she supposed to read, to clean and to help him open a special door which led to the realm of shadows..bla,bla...what was I saying?

I couldn't do it. I tried, and Shadow Beast was kind of yummy. But I just couldn't.

one word:
ANNOYING

This heroine has to be the most annoying I've read in a while. How was this published recently? It reeks of the 2010 era with the not like other girls trope on steroids.
The inner monologue of the heroine (which took most space) was incredibly grating. She tried too hard and I wanted to smack her 90% of the time.

Oof. This book had an interesting premise and it started out pretty readable and compelling but quickly devolved into a bunch of chaotic nonsense. The plot was all over the place, and the love interest(s) were....so back and forth, hot and cold it just made no sense. No romance, no chemistry, and a really chaotic paranormal world set up.

I'm giving this 4 stars because I had a great time reading this! I will say that it is a trilogy with a cliffhanger, but all the books in the series are available on KU so you won't have to wait to read them. They're also on the longer side 400+ pages.

The h has been abused by her pack for 10 years after her father betrayed the Alpha. She has learned to be strong and is waiting for the day when she can leave. She gets her wolf and immediately knows her mate is the Alpha's son (he is one of the worst offenders of her abuse growing up and she hates his guts). He's a clueless jerk and he rejects her. This part wasn't very angsty because her wolf felt sad and betrayed but it was only a biological connection, logically she still hated his guts.

In her pain, she calls out to the Shadow Beast and he comes and takes her away. This is when the book got interesting. She spends time with him trying to help him do something in the Shadow World and trying to figure out her powers and why she can call the Shadow Beast etc. Parts of this got annoying. The h is very snarky and sarcastic. She talks back to everyone and sometimes behaved much younger than her 22 years. However, she is also strong, fierce, and takes no crap. She's not afraid of anyone because she spent so much of her life feeling scared she learned to let it go and just live her life.

This book cover is very misleading. It makes it look like they are going to be having lots of shifter sex on every surface. There is no sex in this book except for The Shadow Beast is very aloof, yet claims her as his. You could tell they were very attracted and there was UST, but I'm sure more will happen in books 2 and 3.

The cliffhanger is very abrupt and if I had read this before the other books had been released, I would've been furious. As it is, I can just download the others and keep reading. I ate this book right up and I've already downloaded the next one.

This. Was. Such. A. Good. Book! This is the first Jaymin Eve book that I've fallen in love with! This one blew all the other ones I've read by this author out of the water.

I adored Mera's sass and backbone. She's been pushed around and bullied by her pack for something that wasn't even her doing. By the end, she's had enough. Thanks to pure chance she gets a way out. It's far from conventional but it's better than staying in a pack where her mate outright rejected her. I truly hope this pack gets what's coming to them by the end of this trilogy and by Mera's hands if I'm being picky.

I'm still on the fence about Beast. He's shown that he somewhat cares about what happens to Mera at someone else's hands and he somewhat protects her while still pushing her and kinda-sorta mistreating her at the same time. I want to believe he has this noble reason behind everything he's doing and it's even mentioned that he has secrets on top of secrets that he's not sharing for "reasons". So my verdict is still out. We'll see as this trilogy progresses. What I can't say about him is that is he doesn't make for an interesting and morally ambiguous character.

The ending was fantastic but it was quite a cliffhanger. I recognize that it did SO much for the story but it didn't do much for my sanity! I must have the second book in my hands right damn now! I sincerely hope that the Torma pack gets what's coming to them. I can't say that enough.

On a completely different note, I'd love to get the story for Beast's friends after this trilogy ends. They seem like interesting standup guys. I'm hoping Mera's friend is one of their future mates!

My Favorite Quotes:

"A little darkness never killed anyone."

"Bend, yes. But breaking was a whole different story."

"[...] I hope that one day your torments settle, and you find a semblance of peace."

Ms Eve what have you done to me!!!!!

The world build is unique and flawless. She gives us just enough taste of the secondary characters to make you crave more. One of my pet peeves is too much information aka unnecessary information...Each intricate addition throughout the book you are given just enough knowledge to tie it all together. I can not say enough about how perfectly it is written.

Mera is amazing. She a a true Phoenix rising from the ashes. Love how she is never victimizing herself. She is strong independent and has her own unique way of dealing with the crapfest life has given her. In the process making her smart witty sarcastic and a complete bad ass.

Shadow is conflicting for me. There is none more dominate than him and come on that is sexy as hell. However there are very few soft moments which makes me pull back from him never allowing me to feel is he the right person for Mera. I have a feeling this is leading up to quite the character reveal in the next book.

Torin to say I loathe him is a complete understatement. Arrogant. Womanizer. Bully. Views himself as alpha of all alphas and anyone should be lucky to have him. Needless to say it will take a miracle for me to change my perspective of him. However this character truly is a perfect ingredient to this amazing read.

Jaxson.... in the end more about him is revealed. As I write this review I realize he is the reason I as the reader have not completely committed to Shadow. It will be interesting to see where the author takes is next.

NO STOPPING ME!!!! On to book 2!

Happy reading!

I tried to read this a few months ago but couldn’t get into it at all. Then I decided to give the audiobook a try and really liked it! It’s duet narration which is life changing.

Quite badly written but engaging enough to finish. I was often frustrated by the author’s cheap plot devices and over the top dialogue. The world building is also off especially when it comes to the magical realm.

The magic “system” is too convenient and too underdeveloped. Things are brushed off as “I’ll have to learn more about that sometime” when we all know she never will. It’s too insignificant to ever bother with other than to explain away how food is delivered or clothes show up perfectly in her size.

The worst part is the men of this world. There isn’t anyone decent. Just various ranges of asshole and abusive. The best one she’s found has a habit of threatening to kill her and tell her how she’ll be no use to him after she does this one task for him. So sexy. 🙄

I’ll read the next book in hopes of seeing that asswhooping the heroine is promising to deliver with her snowflake powers but I don’t have a lot of trust in this author.

I agree with others that this book is very repetitive. The heroine tries to run away and escape but gets captured or kidnapped over and over in this book. It’s especially ridiculous at the start of the book where the happens like 4 times in a row.
