Killer Beauty

Rate this book
I'm the girl you'll never see coming.

Blink and you're dead, another target checked off my list.

But one night everything in my carefully ordered existence falls apart. A bloodbath and a car crash later, I find myself in the grasp of four gorgeous, intimidating men.

Are my captors cops like they claim or something far more sinister? They sure know how to bend the law. And seeing how skillfully they handle a gun or a knife, I can't help wondering what their hands would feel like all over me.

But I have vengeance to wreak, and no man, no matter how powerful, is going to keep me caged for long.

They think they've caught a wounded little mouse. How could they know they've brought a killer into their home?

I'll bide my time, learn all I can, and when I'm ready to strike...

They'll never know what hit them.

Ok, I have more questions about this book than I had before starting it. I also have issues, so many of them. But it’s ok, it’s just a book, right?

Wrong.

I’m frustrated, I’m questioning myself and every single character of this story. A fecking Garlic Milkshake. And I have to wait more than a month to learn the truth? I know I should blame myself for trusting TikTok yet again.

I love Dess but even with her training she’s pretty naive, I hate Garrison, touching Blaze freaks me out, Julius gives me daddy vibes and Talon? He’s my type of a guy. He reminds me of that Viper guy with a unicorn fanny pack. But he knits instead. Super cute.

But I am unfulfilled. This was like lovemaking session but without the big O, felt nice but you’re super unsatisfied.

Who knows, I might change my mind after the book no 2.

I understand that this is a form of slow burn, and normally I’m okay with that (I’m not, I have the patience of a hungry cat at 5am) but this was just dragging on and on and on. It took me an entire week to read through this and normally I’d be able to knock it out in one night. I just kept getting BORED. The characters were (I guess) okay, the premise was intriguing(ish) but the plot was so painfully slow. There was nothing to get my attention until the last 4-5 chapters and even then I had absolutely no answers to any of the questions set up in the book. None. Because of my closure issue I’m going to take a stab at book 2 and hope that it makes up for what I endured.

This was an excellent beginning to the series and managed to easily draw me in investing me in what’s to come. I’ve read these authors and liked them before so my expectations were high with this one and it definitely delivered for me.

It’s another gang-type story and here Desima finds herself free and cut loose from her secluded existence when all the members of her house are violently murdered. She was missed basically because she’s a ghost that doesn’t exactly exist hidden in a secret part of the house Des has been trained as a weapon and kept isolated, a secret. When she decides to avenge the closest thing she can call a family she finds herself the reluctant guest of four men who claim they are undercover cops investigating the massacre but they seem so much more than what they claim to be and Des trusts them about as much as they do her.

Julius Talon Blaze and Garrison are the Chaos crew and rather than undercover cops they are the perpetrators of the bloody massacre they have no idea where Dess came from but until they know how she’s connected to the job they were hired for she’s a loose end only issue is they have a code against harming innocents so until they know either way her involvement they can’t allow her freedom.

This was fast-paced and an easy read I raced through this first book and will definitely be reading the next one in the series. It was well written and I liked Dess as a heroine she was totally badass whilst at the same time possessing a quiet vulnerability I’m so invested in what her story is as we have only touched the surface here regarding her deeper background.

As for the men they were a mix of personalities some more likeable than others at the moment Talon and Blaze have the edge when it comes to their likability but I’m intrigued to experience how this harem will mature going forward. An excellent start.

You’ll like this if:
-You like reverse harems
-You like assassin story’s

Normally I’m not really a why choose girl, but I’ve recently realized that I like serial killer romances and this premise seemed similar enough. I haven’t read many why choose reverse harems but this one seemed like it was written better than the ones I’ve read before. I was really interested in the climax, and while I feel like it was a little short lived I liked it.

1/3/24

First book of the year.

I’ll write more later but the main plot in this is really good. I’m not typically a why choose girl but I didn’t hate this romance. And if it wasn’t port the fact that she was literally soaking her panties from how attracted she was to them in their first interaction then I might have even enjoyed the romance.

This book was really good. I liked the premise of the FMC being a crazy capable assassin and her upbringing made her a very interesting character. It obviously left her with a ton of trauma that she hasn’t even realized yet, which showed up for example when she was asked what makes her happy and she could only think of a couple things after a while, one of them being air for gods sake.

I feel like we didn’t get to know any of her love interests that well. Just bits and pieces to keep us entertained. It is a four book series. The multiple perspectives in reverse harem books is my preference. That did help to see how those characters thought considering they are all lying to each other.

I like the confrontation at the end with the drug dealers and with the people in the sewer. It was one hit after another for our FMC, but I’m excited to see how she comes out of it in the next book. I hope she doesn’t forgive the men too quickly. I’m enjoying the tension and the slow burn that’s been going on. I am fed up with her being locked up though. She deserves some freedom after being raised in captivity goddamn.

For someone trained since a toddler to be an assassin, she really struggles during fights lol. She talks about how competent she is but is hardly able to help herself sometimes. And someone that experienced in fighting won't be held back by bruised ribs and a sprained wrist lmao. Not to the point of mentioning them at least once a chapter. Anyway, I got annoyed one chapter in with all the inner dialogue and it Never. Let. Up. Pausing during action and fighting to have paragraphs of self reflection is so annoying. And none of the actions of the characters are shown to give us a picture of what's happening in a room, we're just told what's happening in glimpses by, surprise surprise, more inner thoughts we didn't ask for. I'm interested to see what happens in the next book but I'll easily DNF that one if it doesn't get better.

Killer Beauty is a spy thriller.  The action sequences were well written and the plot was a good one.  However, it was very dragged out and took way too long to get to the point of the book and for character development and interactions.  Good premise but tough to see through to the end.

After reading and enjoying Crooked Princess also by this duo, I discovered to give the first book in their new series a go. I enjoyed this one, as well as the author, has their tough guys who surprise those close to them as in this book we have Talon who knits, and then the female is always underestimated but she is driven by revenge and kicks butt even though they don't have faith in her. In Killer Beauty, Decima was raised as an assassin and was told never to leave her room without permission. She has never seen the outside world unless it was during one of her missions which tended to be an in/out quick job. That is until one night, she hears shots and when her door is unlocked, in rushes her housekeeper Anna who has been shot and dying. Decima wanders out and sees the whole household massacred and blood everywhere, the mess is chaos. She escapes but is followed by four men who kidnap her under the premise they are undercover cops. The guys don't know who Dess is and how she fits into the picture as she wasn't on their manifest to kill. Dess also has no actual paper trail and her online presence is super clean. Dess has one goal in mind, to get revenge on those who massacred her family but what happens when she discovers that the guys she has grown to trust are the ones who did it? The ending revealed some bits about Decima's past that had me going OMG and I read that last few pages twice as it was a really good cliffhanger and now I can't wait to read Book #2.
Brutal Discoveries is the last chapter from Julius's POV - he is one of the four guys and swears he knows Dess from a past life but he can't place it, she feels the same but can't remember. At the end of Killer Beauty, it offers a free link to download Brutal Discoveries from Bookfunnel.

Loved it

Verdict on this new series by Eva Chase and Harlow king, I’m obsessed and I need more!!! The story is interesting and the characters for the most part are likable.

There were a few moments where I felt like Decima made some questionable mistakes that I feel like a professional assassin would not make. An example would be her using a computer without completely knowing how to clear the we browser history, or thinking about how someone may be able to see it.

However, it’s only just a few things and I feel like she more than makes up for it by being a bad ass. I loved it and I can’t wait for the next book.

Hmmm.. Something missing...

There's nothing I like more then a bad chick that can kick a little booty! However while I did like this storyline it just felt like this story was missing a ingredient that stop me from enjoying this book like I thought I would when I read the book blurb. I just can't my finger on it right!

Well I'm off to read book 2! Here's hoping it a bit better this one.

3* ~ An Okay Read

Dess is a trained assassin. She believes she’s been killing people trying to harm her household. The household is massacred and she escapes. Vowing vengeance she, unbeknownst to her, falls right into the hands of the murderers. All is not what it seems - good and bad are blurred lines.

Dess is a badass - she’s funny, strong (literally), and very resourceful. She is a little naive because she’s never truly existed in the real world. I really liked her character.

Her guys are a bit more complicated. Julius is the leader of the group and 100% alpha male. He definitely has a sweet spot for Dess. Talon is HOTTNESS. The only steam in this book and boy was it worth it. Garrison doesn’t trust anyone outside of the group. He’s a shoot first ask questions later man. I respect that. Last (but not least!) is Blaze and he’s seriously the most adorably sweet killer. All of the guys are attracted to Dess. There’s chemistry with each one. This book only really explores the attraction with Talon and Blaze.

Overall - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, stellar start to a new series. There’s a lot of potential story. I’m really interested in what happens to Dess now that she has the chance to figure out what happened to her as a child. Loads of potential here - looking forward to the next book.

Killer beauty is a Reverse Harem enemies to lovers , hitman/captive romance and is the first book in the Chaos Crew series.

Dessert is our FMC and she's a total badass and was trained to kill by the Household from a very young age. And when they are massacred in their home Dess vows to get revenge and kill anyone that was involved.

Julius, Talon, Blaze, and Garrison are the Chaos Crew, and they decide to hold Dess captive in order to find out who she is and what she was doing near the scene of their latest job.

The book is fast paced with action from the very beginning and danger around every corner. The tension between Dess and the Chaos Crew is electric, but they are hiding things from each other and others are also keeping things from them.

This is an amazing first book to the series where nothing is as it seems and Dess is left wondering who she can trust. And after that ending, I can not wait until the next book is out!

Hooked at the first lines!!! Decima hask been trained since she was a little girl to unalive people. We start her journey by her seeing her entire household destroyed. She leave and set off for revenge. She quickly meets the 4 future love interests, Julius, Talon, Garrison and Blaze. What I like was the difference in age range we can see in the harem, Julius and talon are depicted close to late 30 and the other two are in their twenties.
I really loved Decima and all her interactions with guys.
She stays with the guys to discover who is responsible for the household and having all pov made me feel omniscient, knowing what both sides needed and wanted to discover and waiting for all of them to put their pieces together.

This is a slow burn start to the series but I ain’t mad about it.

I loved the authors other series, Crooked Paradise, so knew I’d have to read The Chaos Crew series!

Decima is our main female and she was raised as a weapon. She’s strong and skilled and a master manipulator. There are a lot of lies being told from all sides and soo many questions we need answers too. I feel like we haven’t gotten much of any answers and just left with more questions, so I’m hoping we get some in book 2!

I find it a little more difficult to relate to these characters, but they are all so good at stone walling their emotions, so maybe that’s why. I’m hopeful we will dig deeper into the characters. The storyline is great and I cannot wait to see where it goes.

It's very interesting to finally have a book in my hands where everyone is deadly. We don't have a powerless female being saved by one or more males and then trained into a fighter. Nope, Decima is an amazing fighter herself.

The personalities fell a bit flat. I don't feel like I know the characters that well. It makes it hard to be invested in their lives. Hope that'll change throughout the series.

The plot felt more like a long prologue, building up to the interesting stuff, and then it was over already. Of course I'm jumping into book two immediately. I need answers.

Giving this book three stars. It was a decent read and definitely got me curious to the rest of the story. But I've read better books.

This is book one of a series and is mostly introducing us to the characters of the Chaos Crew and the deadly but beautiful, Decima. There is a lot of action and not a lot of answers to my billion questions in this book. I was so frustrated… I have theories, but as usual, I am rubbish at working out plot lines and who I’m able to trust. The story is well written and keeps the intrigue flowing and the heart-pounding right to the last word.

Decima is deadly, literally! She has been trained her whole life to become a killer. It’s my mission now to find out exactly what happened to her. I loved her snarky sense of humour and her strong persona. I was constantly on edge waiting for the next twist with her.

The Chaos Crew are as alpha as you can get. Each of the four men is so capable in the art of protection and as deadly as Decima. Can these men be trusted? I think so. They all have their individual personalities and each one has me a little bit in love with them.

I can’t wait to dig deeper into the lives of these people and find out what’s going on.

This one was intriguing. I love reading about females who are killers and can take care of themselves. They don’t need no man and I’m here for it.

Mercenary groups, kidnappings, lots of fights and a lot of WTF’s later and I still have no idea what I just read. Im trying to pace myself in starting the next book though because book 3 doesn’t come out until the end of Feb and i know I’m going to be fuming with this next cliffhanger!

All in all, a fast paced book that kept my attention. I just hope we get more from the boys (yes it’s an RH) in the next book

I love how completely different this storyline is from other books that I've read. There's so many questions that I still have and the story is so engaging that I'm definitely completely invested in Dess' journey. Dess is a very interesting FMC. Due to her upbringing, she really is a blank slate. She has no idea who she is and she's been trained to obey and kind of have no personality at all, almost machine like. Despite that she wants nothing more then to find her freedom and figure out who she is. She's gotten wrapped up in these four guys who aren't letting her out of their sights for their own reasons and I think they're all going to find their worlds upside down. This is a slow burn but there's plenty of tension between Dess and the men, plenty of violence, darkness and a whole lotta intrigue.

Absolutely loved it

I absolutely loved this book it had plenty of mystery and story to go with the relationship and romance side.

Dess is amazing and by the time the book ends she's well and truly had the rug pulled out from under her several times over. She strong on the inside and the outside. I loved the action scenes in this book.

The guys, I love them all already but am particularly intrigued by Garrison and his life prior to ending up with the crew and why he's the way he is.

So excited for book two, can't wait thankful this one didn't end on a big cliffie I was holding my breath and on tenterhooks for the last bit.

Action packed assassins
A unique story that starts right off with a violent mass murder. Dess is raised in an odd family unit trained as an assassin. This book is an ongoing series that sets the stage, introducing characters and giving us a taste of each of their backgrounds. The guys from the Chaos Crew are introduced showing the reader that there will be plenty of baggage tied to each of them. There is a slow burn attraction between Dess and the guys giving us much to look forward to in the next books. Even with the slow burn start, there are steamy scenes to enjoy. There is excellent dialogue and descriptions that flow well, everyone is posturing back and forth as they all are trying to figure each other out. There is plenty of action, secrets and more. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.
