Why do our secrets keep hurting us?

Why do our secrets keep coming back?

Why can’t our secrets just die?

Emersyn Sharpe was nothing like I expected and everything I could have ever dreamed of. She stayed and she changed everything. She put the guys in their place. She had fire and spunk, a ferociousness I wished I possessed.

Her darkness called to mine in a way that felt like home.

But hiding secrets is hard work and even the people who think they already know the worst, can’t be fully trusted. No matter how desperately you want it.

The truth may set you free, but the lies? They keep you bound so tight, you don’t even realize you’re trapped.

Milo coming home brought Liam back to us and Boo-boo fit right in. Everything was supposed to get better. So how did it get worse?

Why, why did she leave? Why couldn’t she have waited?

My name is Freddie Dunlap and I’m going to find her.

DIRTY DEVIL is a full length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. The dark romance aspects of this tale continue. Please be aware some situations may be uncomfortable for readers. Trigger warnings can be found in the foreword should you require them. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book four in the series.

I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.

I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.

After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.

Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.

Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.

One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!

Gah somehow, I love Freddie even more! That sweet goofy man totally won my heart all over again.

This whole series has been a lesson on control. A lesson for me anyway because there have been so many points at which I almost threw my phone listening to it waiting to see what was going to happen.

Dirty Devil picks up right where Ruthless Traitor left off with Emersyn leaving her merry band of men to protect them. Of course, I thought this was going to go the way of them rescuing her and putting her uncle in his place but nope. I was completely off base there.

This is my first Heather Long series so I am learning as I go but I will say her books never go the way that I think they will. Even with Milo, I kept expecting him to completely lose his mind but even that didn't go the way I thought it would.

Just to say, I don't expect anything now. I just go with it and enjoy the whiplash along the way.

As usual narration was so delicious in my earholes!! Brooke Daniels never fails to pull me in with her rasp especially when she is in an emotional scene. Then the guys, lawd!! Noel Harrison, Toby Scott and Adam Gold delivered in all the ways.

I do have to say, I missed not having as much of Doc. He kind of won my heart in the very beginning and I can't seem to let him go.

While this one didn't end on as big of a cliffhanger as the others, I am still ready for the next book to be out in audio so that I can see what is in store for Emersyn and her guys.

BASIC FACTS:
Pages: 456
My rating: 4
Genre: RH, contemporary, Gang
Themes: Mental health, torture with meds, Gang/crime
Protagonist Ages: Emersyn is 18, her brother is 25. The ages of the other guys is not mentioned. Doc is much older than Emersyn and the guys
Pacing: good pacing for this story, slow burn
Plot Rating: 3.5

Because most of the story plays in a mental health institution, it is sometimes hard to read. But I loved every minute of this book. We get to know Freddie story and a bit more of Emersyn’s story. I loved that we got to see Freddie in action. After this book I’m a little concerned that the author wants to write 8-9 books in this series. And this one is book 4. I hope the other books will be as good as the first four.

This series is just such a captivating study of character- of the things that make us who we are, and the things that break our humanity, the transfixing dichotomy of nature and nurture and how both can work in concert, or at odds, in how we formulate our identity. How people do, or don't, grow and involve, how they move forward when they are still mired in the consequences and ghosts of their pasts. Heather is unapologetically emotive and meta in how she approaches this narrative- while our characters have trigger-happy urgency in resolving the power games, in culling the answers, our dear author does not. She’s carefully meting out the pieces of this complicated puzzle one character moment at a time, boldly asking us to dive deeply into their psyche, to wade through the waters of their trauma and pain and SIT in it, to linger. Not only does that make this series a more emotively immersive experience, but it also beautifully illuminates the themes Heather is weaving throughout, the essence of these character’s connections- the themes of trauma and identity, of redemption and resilience, of SURVIVAL, because we don’t just see the aftermath of their survival, oh no. We are so intimately connected to these characters (truly a master fete considering the sheer number of them) we experience their survival, past and present. Their pain is our own. But this also gives us the tinge of hope throughout the series, how connection and understanding can drown out the dark, can help us find power in the most powerless of places. But this fourth outing feels pretty absent of hope for much of it- intentionally so. We got too comfortable in the tender embrace of the Vandals, so Heather brilliantly reminds us of the stakes, while also giving us an unflinching view into the lived reality of our brave but oft enigmatic heroine…and a deeper look into some of our Vandals, especially Freddie. AND IT HURTS- Dirty Devil is emotionally savage. Heather continues to layer the pain, to unveil the scars, scars that often turn out to be barely triaged gaping wounds camouflage by the bold courage and brash resilience of her characters. But beneath it all they are just wounded and lost.

And that is what makes her narrative choice in this book so risky and bold- because she removes their center for much of the story (which certainly impacts the RH steamy fun we’re used to thus far). But what a brilliant catalyst to the relationally-recalibrating that has been bubbling within the Vandals. Their center of gravity has long since shifted, but they’ve not quite confronted how that impacts their brotherhood…or for some of them, themselves. We get to watch them grapple with that, watch them be thrown further off kilter, see them rise and stumble. The impact of this book is yet to be known, but this feels like a real and powerful turning point not just for Emersyn as a character but also this crew as a whole. With several books left I know we’re not yet close to our warmth and fuzzies and some characters are still being unpacked , but with every passing page my heart beats more voraciously for each of these characters. And my admiration for Heather’s ability to weave together intense character arcs with such compelling relationship dynamics and a broader dark arc only grows. Her story telling is purposefully, every moment intentional- even if we don’t yet know to what end. There’s really nothing like this series- and I for one can’t wait for more.

This series is so addicting! And Freddieeeee! So much love for him, and I love how he was given more time in this book. I do hope we get to experience and hear more about Emersyn's past as the series progresses (no matter how painful and dark it is), as her vulnerability and strength is really appealing to read.
Just love this authors way of writing and her characters. Hoping this is also a hint to a series for Lainey 🤭🖤

I <3 Freddie!!

Dirty Devil is the fourth book in this series, and it did not disappoint! Like the previous books, this one has multiple POVs, focusing more on a few key characters rather than all.

This book will hurt a bit. Emersyn goes through a lot of hurt and pain, but as we know, she’s strong. There is also joy and healing.

I can’t remember the last time I read a book that took a pause on spice and kept me interested (lol), but this book definitely did that. The story had me hooked the entire time. There’s a good balance of action, angst, and some humor thrown in there. Overall, I highly recommend this series. I can’t wait for book 5!!

This was one intense wild ride for sure! Freddie is a real hero and came through for Emersyn in a big way along with the twins. Prepare yourself to really hate the bad guys because they are horrid and hopefully the Vandals take them all out. Emersyn has been through a lot and hopefully, the worst is behind her. Milo has made some progress which is nice to see, he's coming around. I'm super curious about Adam and the Reed family. Liam and Rome are my favorite and you will totally get what I mean once you have read this. Hang on to your seat belts because this one is a nail-bitter that you won't be able to put down.

I'm bummed.

I loved loved the previous books of this series. I was super excited for the next one to come out (like counting days waiting for it to be released because I'm a loser like that... dontjudge)

Then I downloaded and started reading it and and quickly came to the conclusion that I was not going to like this book.

This one picks up where the last book left off except in Liam's POV. He's trying to get to Emersyn before they take off on the plane, but (obviously) doesn't get there on time.
With Emersyn back in the clutches of her twisted uncle, she's trying to survive while also figuring out a way to get away again, but alas, she cannot find a way.
Meanwhile, the guys are arguing with Milo about whether or not Emersyn actually wanted to leave and whether or not they should intervene and try to get her back.
But of course (as its a recurring theme with this series), no one is actually communicating and its just frustrating - Rome and Liam search the apartment and find a bunch of proof that Emersyn didn't leave because she wanted to be reunited with her family, but they don't share any of it with the guys until days later and only share with Freddy. Milo's still got his head up his bum about the situation, he's all butthurt thinking she left him. Vaughn, Kellen, and Jasper are just going along, business as usual, waiting for someone to figure out what they are gonna do.
Finally, they come up with a plan (like halfway through the book) to get Emersyn back, but of course it takes the last half of the book for them to actually get her back and then we get to the last few pages and Emersyn is back with her guys and we're right back where we were 2 books ago with her trying to make sure 1) she stays away from her uncle and 2) keep her secrets from everyone.

So, although this book covered just how bad she's had it with her uncle being in her life, nothing really has changed. Although, we do get a little insight into Freddy (which was heartbreaking). I'm still lost as to how Freddy fits into it all - is he just her bestest bestie from another testie? future harem member? What's up with Doc? that wishy-washy 'will they or won't they' hasn't be resolved other than he wants her but refuses to let himself have her meanwhile she's pining over him (although, she's still salty about their scene from book 3).

I also got annoyed with all the cliffy's at the end of chapters (some of them still leaving us hanging, some of them resolved at the end of the book) and a lot of chapters seeming completely random and irrelevant to the story.

The thing that bothered me the most though was all the damn flashback chapters to scenes that have happened in previous books, just told from a different point of view. I get it, it happened, I don't need a repeat.

Anyhoo. This book, to me, was just a bunch of filler. The entire thing could have happened and been resolved in a quarter of the book. The story hasn't really moved forward aside from getting a smidge of insight into Liam's other activities with this King character, Freddy's backstory and Emersyn's life pre-Vandals.

All that said, I'll still finish this series. I just didn't like this book of this series... 3 out of 4 ain't too bad....

Spice: 0.5/3 🌶 (you’ll understand why)

Holy crap. This book was a whirlwind of emotions. There’s so much angst for my poor girl Emersyn. That girl just cannot catch a break and my heart weeps for her. We finally get to have more insight about what horrors her uncle has been l putting Emersyn through.

I also laughed out loud when Freddie (purposefully) mispronounced the doctors and nurses names 😂

And can I just say? I freaking loved Bodhi! That man has some serious issues, but he’s freakin funny and I’m kinda hoping that we get to see him again!

I’m loving this series so much and I can’t wait for the next one!!

With each book in the series, I fall deeper in love with these characters, becoming even more invested in their story. I think this may be the darkest book of the series to date and for me, it was probably the toughest to read. Be sure to read the TW before diving in.

Dirty Devil picks up right where things left off in Ruthless Traitor and emotions are running high. We get up close and personal with Emersyn’s monster in this book and I continue to be in awe of her resilience and strength. Dirty Devil features Freddie quite a bit and we experience just how beloved he is by the rest of the Vandals. I love his teasing, easygoing relationship with Emersyn and this book gives Freddie the opportunity to really shine. We also finally get the truth about Freddie’s traumatic past. We knew, we suspected, but this book gave us the sordid details as Freddie and Emersyn really open up to each other.

Meanwhile, some details are slowly revealed leading to even more questions and at this point they just keep piling up. This series has a complex plot with different storylines interwoven throughout which makes for a super intriguing read where you don’t always have all of the information. This type of series requires some trust in the author and Heather hasn’t yet steered me wrong!

Emersyn and the Vandals are apart for much of the book so this book is low on steam but it doesn’t make it any less captivating. Here’s hoping for lots of healing and plenty of togetherness in the next book. Another amazing addition to this completely addicting RH series!

"We're all broken, Starling." Head tilted, he cupped my cheek and I leaned into the contact. "Broken isn't ugly, or wrong. It's not bad."

* * * * *

The second he sauntered into that windowless bedroom in Savage Vandal, my poor, hopeful heart has been bleeding and beating and broken for Freddie freaking Dunlap. With every page he poured himself out onto, behind every chaotic, caustic or crude comment, his shining heart hidden away, his vulnerability and trauma wrapped like armor and a noose all at once, I've been ready to champion this character.

Dirty Devil proved every bit of that hope and faith in Freddie was worth it a million times over, because Freddie proved to everyone, but especially to himself, that he is so much more than he ever believed he could be. Just like the people he loves most in this world, there is nothing Freddie won't do for his family, and no end to his own determination and drive to protect the woman who would risk everything to protect them, too.

This book is...everything. Beautiful and poignant, heartbreakingly tragic and yet a gorgeously powerful testament to conquering your demons by being brave enough to banish shame and bare your soul. If you've ever felt broken, powerless, trapped or beaten down, Emersyn, the Vandals, and their story, especially Dirty Devil, will grip your heart and break you to pieces. But just like the puzzle pieces Emersyn begins to snap into place as she fights to reclaim her power, it'll put you back together again, too.

We're all broken, and broken isn't bad.

This book was intense, heartbreaking, beautiful and so much more.

Without giving too much away, this book picks up after Emersyn leaves the guys to go back to her uncle. You get to see the story throughout multiple POV, and her guys are willing to do anything to get her back. Her guys find that there’s way more than what was assumed with Emersyn’s past trauma, especially Freddie. Freddie really stepped it up in this book, and is a hero in many ways, especially with helping her with her trauma.

There’s so many things going on in the background of the story, and it is finally coming forward. You get to see a little more behind the life of Liam and how he’s involved with the Vandals. But this book really put Liam, Rome and Freddie at the top of my list.

The character and story development were phenomenal. Every emotion was felt deeply, and the story is addicting. My heart was ripped apart and put back together. I cannot wait for the next book! Heed the trigger warnings guys.

Do you ever find yourself laughing and crying at the same time?? No? Just me?

I absolutely love Em and how she is continuing to grow through the books while also developing her relationships with her men.

Each book takes time to focus on an individual guy and their relationship to Emersyn while not completely pushing the others into the back, which I love. We got to see a whole new side to our most broken vandal.

Him telling Em that although she’s broken she’s still breathtaking had my heart stopping and slowly restarting.

These characters are so complicated and dark but they allow themselves to be free together, it’s beautiful.

The action, the twists, the turns. I never knew where the author was going!

The steam? This series has some of the best steam of a rh series and yet I need more!!

I can’t wait to see where they go next, can we all agree to never let this story end?

I absolutely love this series so much! With each book I fall a little more in love with the characters and the story. Dirty Devil is definitely the darkest one to date.

Dirty Devil picks up right where Ruthless Traitor ends. With Emersyn taking off and the Vandals agonizing over why she left.

Freddie is the star in this story. I was so happy to see him take center stage. From zero to hero, he charges in to rescue Emersyn like the Vandal we all know he is.

This story is just so emotionally charged. Learning about Freddie’s past to the suffering Emersyn endures at the hands of her uncle. It’s full of pain, struggle, and trauma.

Heartbreaking Story

Emersyn is back with her uncle and her guys will stop at nothing to get her back.

"Broken is bad...broken isn't ugly or wrong. It's not bad..."

Freddie really impressed me in this book and came through for Em. I felt like his character had some pretty major growth in this book and really gave Em someone who understood and helped her with her trauma.

This book hurts with the trauma and pain Em endures, but the author gave us a heartbreaking story that we hate to love.

Whoa. Holy smokes. THIS was like a roller coaster in the best way and took the slight slowness of book 3 and rocketed it to warp speed. Super unexpected plot and loved getting to see Freddie step up. With everything going on in this plot, spice was minimal but for a good reason. Now I’m counting down the months to the next release!

What a ride, this is the fourth book in Heather Longs 82nd Street Vandals series. Do not read without first reading the first 3 books.

This is a journey with growth through pain. Be ready to be fully consumed from start to finish with this book.

Dirty Devil is a masterpiece that moved me in many ways while keeping me thoroughly entertained & glued to each page. Dirty Devil has solidified the 82nd Street Vandals as my favorite book series. Yes Favorite & to a book lover like me especially one who doesn't like choosing that is not said lightly. It said passionately.

I have to say this is one of the hardest books to review for because I just love it so much & I want to do it justice. I have so much to say without giving stuff away & trying to make the review cohesive, not just rambling passion fueled mess. I just have so much passion for this book & it's a lot of self pressure to channel it into words, to do my love of it justice & the justice to the review deserve. Well I'm not going to be able to do that but here is my attempt at telling you some reasons why it is so amazing.

The fact that we aren't half way through the series yet & we have come so far with these characters is mind-blowing. The development of the characters & and their relationships. The journey that we been taken on has been literally all the things. From a fun trip away with Jasper for the night to joking & reading reverse harem with Freddie, dances at the club with Liam & boxing with him, driving lessons with Kellen, tattoos with vaugh these fun great moments we get to agree with the characters while getting to know them and their relationship deepening Every interaction with Rome you can feel the Deep connection whether it's sharing art and comfort. We get these fun moments we really feel the Chemistry Between the characters. While also having darker moments learning about dark pasts, dealing with Mysteries and threats. Learning about motivation for starting the gang that they're all in. Characters having to face that sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side and having to break each other's hearts to admit the truth of the past and what it means for the present. All these characters their souls really do call to each other. And it's masterly woven together. Heather long is an amazing storyteller.

These characters that can relate to each other in a lot of ways. As artists, as Fighters having a tough upbringing. Shared pasts. The relationship between Em and Milo. The history there. The ferocity of Laney and her love of EM. The flashbacks of their friends together. And this book we it's so much more of Laney and we really fall for her. We get to find out just how much she knows as well ad more intrigue by Adam & Ezra and her interaction with the Vandals. Yes her interaction with the vandals. Not to mention their interaction with the Vandals. These are just a few of the things that I love in the series in this book.

But Dirty Devil is Freddies time to shine. It's both Emerson and Freddy having to fight for themselves for each other and it's so necessary for them to both go through this and to move and to start to process more than they were doing and to heal. And to connect with each other. Through some harrowing circumstances.

Freddie is such a complex layered character and Heather Long writes him brilliantly. From his introduction in Savage Vandal in that very first scene, in spite of what he was saying the way she wrote it made you like him and made you take it the correct way. Which I think is tricky. Having his wild words and so much beyond that an early on being able to see that in the writing is amazing. And then the little bread crumbs to their being more.

The flashbacks learning how he jokes & says these things because yes they're part of his personality but also with meaning behind them. He tries to distract and get his family not to fight. He uses that part of his personality kind of working behind the scenes within the group. He feels a lot and he cares a lot. He cares deeply and it's sensitive and can triggered. He uses drugs to numb the pain and the memories in his head to cope. Its medicine to him and in past gets himself into trouble trying to get it and on it. But the guys do the best they can with him because they know some of what he's been through.

I really like how the guys take care of him and do the best they can. I really love the portrayal, it's very powerful it's kind of the like harm reduction or risk reduction when it comes to someone who uses drugs. Especially in flashbacks when you're seeing the guys telling him not to go to other people not to put himself In harm's way for money he's part of their family.

They try to help him as best they can there's only so much you can do never abandon him and they're always there for him and I just love the way it's portrayed in this book. The raw realness of what he's been through and how he copes now and how the other characters respond. Freddie is a character who will praise himself in one moment be completely self-deprecating at the same time. He's a character that exudes confidence initially and has these outrageous jokes yet there's so much beneath that he knows that he can be unreliable because he's using substance to numb his pain and that he has a pain to deal with and he's so sensitive and feel so deeply it's explored so well throughout the series and then we get to this book and it's time to go all in.

Freddie steps up for Boo Boo and put himself in a situation he's not a fan of in normal circumstances . A place that's going to make him vulnerable that's going to expose him and cause him to face some stuff. I think with Freddie would risk everything for Boo Boo but this is the ultimate risk for him being put in a place like this. Poetic and perfect.

They relate on such a deep level that they don't yet know about at first, their souls call to each other, their trauma calls to each other and it's very satisfying a cathartic for us all for these two characters to have each other in this book. There is an amazing scene that brought me to tears one of many that brought me to tears but it's just so amazing between the two of them

I've always loved Freddie and I love him more with each book. This book had some much of what I'd hoped for him and wanted for the two of them when it comes to their shared trauma and their growing connection. And their character development individually and together.

In this book Em is put into a facility and I think Heather Long did an amazing job of writing this. She makes dark romances & dark things very digestible. She makes you feel them and she makes you emotional but does it in a way that you can take. That you want. Don't get me wrong I cried but I think a perfect example is how she describes a certain treatment that is shrouded in controversy especially historically. And especially when it's used on somebody who does not need it for nefarious purposes. And it's alluded to. Em refers to it and way it feels & describes it in a floaty Buzzy way so you know what she's talking about and how she feels is described well. But we don't have it blatantly said explicitly but it's very implied by how she's describing it. So not only are we getting like this moving description but it's one that is easier to take. And it might be blatantly said in future books but I think the way it was done was just so smart for this book and during the scenario that we are reading about and it makes so much sense for the character and what she was going through out of it for a lot of it.

We continue to learn a lot about Em and her past and the other characters through their present. It really is remarkable all the things that have been planted throughout the series that are they are now that we're going to realize later.

Heather long is just such an amazing writer I mean truly masterful, how she makes you feel for these characters and gives you just the right amount that you can take. And she gives you darkness and beauty at the same time. The beauty that comes from the darkness. The connection that can form through their trauma.

I was hooked into every page of this book. I love that it is a reverse Harem and it is not being pushed into that box and contained into a box that that has somewhat arbitrarily seem to form for reverse harem. This is the kind of story and storytelling is what reverse harem readers deserve. Plot heavy books with emotion and depth that I could write a college paper on analyzing it.

And a series with steamy spice but when it's organic and appropriate and if the story doesn't call for it's not in the story and I love that. I want to read the story, I want to read about these characters and I love spice & everything nice but I love it when it's organic. I just love the choices made for the story and book. I don't even think their choices actually, I think that Heather long just has a brilliant mind and is a gifted Storyteller and isn't looking at labels she's just giving us her best and for that I am thankful because wow is her best the best.

I wish I could do this book justice in this review I wish I could do this series Justice with my review but it's just so hard to put into words, include all the things and articulate just how amazing the series is and how amazing this book is. Other than to say it is just beyond it really is. I can't recommend it enough.

I am so happy that I have been reading it from the beginning because it gives me something to look forward to every couple of months and I love to theorize and talk about the book in the meantime and reread or listen to the audible because let me tell you that duet narration, really multi narrating cast is absolutely amazing. I have so many theories. Heather does an amazing job of giving you what you want & keeping you satisfied yet giving you new questions, mysteries and more to be uncovered, discovered, and to be explored.

I love the way this book ended it wasn't a cliffhanger it just at a place where we're excited to get some answers about one of the plots going on. Loved the ending scene and you know it was powerful and exciting that last line and I'm so excited to see where the story goes. And I know with the number of books we have that this is going to be a series that is so satisfying, where we fully know these characters and just get such an epic journey of a story that is just going to embed on to my soul as it already is.

I'm here for the journey I'm here for the ride & I'm so happy about it. This truly is my favorite series and those are big words. I also really recommend The Untouchables series by Heather Long which I love with all my heart as well. It's also a longer Series where you really get in-depth with the characters on their Journey. I am in love with the series end with Heather Longs stories and her way of writing them. Highly recommend.

This is a tough read-trapped in a mental hospital with doctors and nurses who abuse patients. Plus, an on page rape by her uncle. But man do I love Freddie now! And I am super curious about Bodhi and hope we haven't seen the last of him.

FREAKING YES! All the yeses and then some more.

Pretty sure this is my new favourite Vandals book.

It was just so well done. I love how there is a character theme for each book, so although you get POV’s from all of them still, you’ll get just that big extra from the guy it focuses on. That has to be my favourite thing with this series. You still get everyone, but you just get that little bit of extra insight on one.

I’ll say one thing here: Confession. That broke me as much as them. My poor little Freddie 😭

Did I manage to build my own harem out of new characters? Why yes, yes I did. I seriously hope we get more of them in the future!

Another book where I’m going to tell you to heed the trigger warnings before diving in. Because there will be some.

I knew Freddie had it in him. He has proved himself in so many ways in this book. He deserves so much credit. When Emersyn thinks she's saving the guys from her Uncle and leaves them to go back all hell breaks loose. When the guys realize her ex / dance partner wasn't the only one hurting her things really begin to fall into place in their minds. They are devastated to have lost her and will do anything to get her back. Emersyn thinks she's doing the right thing but has no idea things have changed. Her Uncle has put in protections to keep her from leaving or being taken again. The psychiatric facility is absolutely horrible. I can't not believe the things done to her, and how she is able to retain herself. I loved Bodhi. He is such a funny side character. Lainey of course is the best friend anyone could ask for. She really puts herself out there too, to help find Emersyn. Without her the guys would have had a much harder time. I can't wait for her Uncle to get what's coming to him.

Okay, this is easily my favorite book series that I am reading right now (out of 20 series lol)
That being said I ate this book cover to cover in one sitting after closing my office early to dive into it.
And it did not disappoint!
This book is very heavy in the emotional category, there is a lot of diving into our FMC and seeing her traumas and even some past and really building her into someone that you can understand more. The first 3 books touched on her history but this one gives more of a front-row seat, while also showing how she is growing as she is supported. We also get to understand Freddie and see more into his head which was a treat. I'm not going to lie I really wanted a reunion much sooner or even just have the guys bust in guns blazing, but everything flowed well, and any sooner would have been rushed. This book was a great setup for the rest of the series and I feel like it's only going to get better and progress faster from here on out!
I can not wait for book 5, and to see what happens with the stapler!!
As always Heather is killing it!!!

Dirty Devil knocked me out of the water! Heather keeps outdoing herself in this series, and I'm 100% here for this.

This next installment in Emersyn and the 82nd Street Vandals story is pure genius. It's the story we knew needed to happen, that we thought we were prepared for, but weren't. So good.

…”she didn’t want to go. I don’t care that she said it was her choice. She didn’t want her family to find her”….Dirty Devil blows up so many of the secrets that Emersyn has been holding close to her cuff, yet before she lets some of those secrets into the wild, the guys need to get together and work out the little truths that she has dropped along the way in the journey she’s been on since she was taken in Savage Vandal. There is way more to Emersyn Sharpe’s life than what the Vandals thought and bargained for. I just worry how some of those truths will affect Milo.

Heather uses the metaphor of a puzzle in this book and it's perfect. Watching the guys putting together the pieces of the puzzle that Emersyn dropped in her conversations with the guys, adding the pieces that Lainey shared, and bam.....the puzzle is starting to come together more and more, but at the same time, leaving it unfinished as we need more of those pieces to tell the whole true tale of what's really going on in Braxton Harbor and with the Bay Ridge Royals, the Vandals, the Diamonds, Emersyn, and then......the king. Don't forget about him. He has some tasks he assigns in this book to Liam.....how are the met? Where will these lead us in the story?

My favorite part of this entire book was the Vandal's proving to Emersyn that they are willing to fight for her and they don't care what they need to do. Be committed? check. Take out a villain who deserved it? check. Tell her they cannot be manipulated and threats don't matter? Check. That she is their #1 most important in their lives? check.

Also, I'd like to nominate Lainey as officially the best Bestie EVER. She more than shows up, she represents, and puts herself behind her words to support Emersyn and has been doing this for years behind the scenes. When she calls out Milo for being creepy for following them years ago, its hilarious and sweet on both of their parts, but the fire between the two of them in this book? Her comment about Ezra and Adam....damn, I'm here for their story...we'd better be getting that! :) She's all sass with those guys and doesn't put up with their overbearing ways.

And Freddie....ahhhhh you are so amazing.....him telling Emersyn that there was "nowhere else I'd rather be Boo-Boo" when she truly realizes that he is there and not just in her memories. Watching Emersyn fight back to who she was after everything that happens in this book was heartbreaking, but I can't wait to see her in the next book!

Bodhi wins for best side character that showed up and stayed...his "you I don't want to kill" was fabulous....I was kind of waiting to hear how he wanted to take out Freddie. Though I will say, this book really makes me feel the need for an amazing stapler. :)

This story is everything you didn’t know you needed in not only Emersyn’s story, but also the Vandals. Through their journey to find Emersyn, they reconnect in ways that they haven’t been able to since Milo went to jail for that murder he didn’t commit. They learn to focus on each other, work together and to know that not one person is in charge anymore. I liken it to the metaphor that Heather uses in this book of a puzzle. Each piece is important and needs the other to complete itself.

Now, about that chess metaphor….who really is the King? And what is his endgame? I have a feeling he is NOT who we suspect and that we may be shocked by the truth. I can’t wait for Brutal Fighter to release!

Oh myyyy…Dirty Devil 😈 was intense and really engrossing. I did not want to stop reading and darn…that ending is definitely WTFhanger as Heather Long (author) called it in her Afterword!! I am going to be waiting on pins and needles for Brutal Fighter (Book 5 of the 82nd Street Vandals). Emersyn (Liam’s Hellspawn, Kellen’s Sparrow ! Roman’s Starling, Jasper’s Swan , Milo’s Ivy, Freddie’s Boo-Boo, Doc’s Little Bit, Vaughn’s Dove….that’s a lot of names for anyone person. Makes me glad I only have two nicknames 😂 😝), Freddie, Liam, Rome, Kellen, Jasper, Milo, Doc, and Lainey have become more developed as characters (not sure how clear that is sounds awkward but hopefully you get what I am trying to say. As characters they have developed and are evolving more and more as each book progressed. We can’t more background on most of the characters. Dirty Devil 😈 has more of the history of most of the individuals in the 82nd Street Vandals and Emerson. (I want to say here and now that I really hope Heather will give Lainey, Milo, Adam, and Ezra their own story or even their own series. After all as pointed out by Liam both of Emersyn’s and the Vandal’s (and by that I mean all of the guys), worlds have collided with Lainey, Adam, and Ezra and (I don’t know about you but I want more. I have some thoughts on how they become more entwined as the series progresses but will wait and see what happens in Brutal Fighter. Dirty Devil 😈 had my emotions all in an uproar. I have so many thoughts and feelings on what happened to the characters in Dirty Devil 😈 and the character’s past relationships with each other in the past and how they have changed and become more well rounded. Dirty Devil 😈 also brought up subjects that some might get triggered by them. I want to say here that please, please, heed the trigger warnings. I don’t have any and I have my own opinion on what transpired in Dirty Devil 😈 and I am really hoping for a happy ending at the end of this series that at the least fixes some of the broken bits or at least makes it easier on the characters to live with their broken bits. I know this is a long review but like I mentioned before Dirty Devil 😈 is very intense and deep. Anyway, Dirty Devil 👿 has lots of drama, angst, secrets, revelations, emotions, twists, turns, things going sideways, and lots of heat. I highly recommend Dirty Devil 😈 , 82nd Street Vandals as a series, and Heather Long as an author. Heather Long is most definitely on my favorite author list and she has not let me down in any of the books I have read from her. In fact I will go as far as saying that if you are loving 82nd Street Vandal’s then you will love her Untouchables series. The Untouchables series and the 82nd Street Vandals are the only series I have read so far from Heather but I definitely plan on reading her other series. One of my favorite tropes is military romances so I am sure I will be reading her Always a Marine series. Happy Reading!!

Dirty Devil is the fourth book in the 82 Street Vandals series and they must be read in order. DD is about Freddie and OH.MY.GOD. Freddie is fucking amazing. I LOVE FREDDIE!!!! Ok I'm going to try and calm down and actually tell you guys about the book. Don't read this if you haven't read the first three books. So at the end of RT Emersyn calls Freddie and tells him to let everyone know she has decided to go home. This of course brings a range of emotions from the different guys. Hurt, confusion, anger. Freddie though, he knew. HE KNEW she didn't want to go back, no matter what she told him. He is willing to do whatever it takes to get her back.

So poor Emersyn, she makes the choice to go back home to keep the guys safe. She has put herself in so much danger by doing so. More danger than I think even she realized. Her uncle is one crazy ass mo-fo and her being gone has pushed him over the edge. Emersyn is a strong girl though. She has endured this life before and she will make it through it again. This girl has got some gumption and when the going gets tough, she grabs a stapler. LOL Trust me, you will get it later.

Freddie. Fucking Freddie! You guys aren't even ready for him. I think he may be my favorite male character that Heather has ever written. He is going to get his Boo-Boo. We get to see a whole new side of Freddie. He has had a shit life, which we do get to learn about. He has been the "weak link" in the gang. The one the others needed to protect and look out for. He's had his issues with addiction. He is used to being the fuck up. Now, now he gets to be the hero. Freddie is fierce. He is loyal. He is determined. He doesn't care what happens to him as long as Emersyn is ok. He puts himself in a situation that is not comfortable or really safe for him.

Y'all this whole book was just everything. We dive deeper into Emersyn's past. We delve into the darkness of Freddie's past. We see further into what Liam has been up to. This whole series is just a multitude of puzzle pieces and they are all starting to click together. Be warned though, this book is not your action packed, steamy sex, gang life book. This one is going to hurt. The trauma is intense. You will want to wrap these characters up in a giant bear hug and cuddle them to your chest and cry. It hurts so good though. You will come through it with so much more information and ready for the next step.

Now b/c Heather is a freaking mastermind and she loves to tease us, we have some other characters trying to grab some attention too. There are some characters that have been popping up that I've been interested in. This book makes you NEED to know more.

Ok I could probably go on and on and on about this book b/c Freddie has my whole heart right now. But I'm just going to tell you to go read this book. Please please go read this book. You need it in your life.

If you haven't read the first 3 books in this series, STOP! This series must be read in order as each book begins where the previous one ends.

At the end of the last book, after beating up security guards and the person who drove her to the airport, Liam watches helplessly as Emersyn boards a private plane. Now they have to figure out, exactly what happened and where exactly she is. They find out little from the driver, who had been hired to not only take her to the airport but also had watched all of them for months.

Freddie was the only one she called. She didn't want them to talk her out of leaving. Now they have to find her before they can bring her back. Milo thinks they should leave her be since she appears to have left of her own accord. Freddie is adamant that she didn't want to go.

The horrors Emersyn goes through on her return had me wanting to jump into the book and do something, anything to get her away from her uncle and his goons.

We get to see another side of Doc in this one, the one who once was a Vandal. It's not a subtle difference.

It takes a while, but Rome is the one who finds the reason Emersyn left, pictures of them all with targets on them, she was protecting them. There's also her phone and that's when things get interesting.

When Freddie sees the message on it from Lainey, he immediately texts her back. He has to prove to her he really is a friend but then arranges a meet. We get a flashback here of Lainey and Emersyn in Florida. This time we get to know that Milo was there and what happened between him, Adam and Ezra.

Lainey is no pushover, and she won't tell them anything unless they take her home with them. The arrival at the clubhouse offers a surprise as Lainey recognizes Milo. Then Liam shows up and asks why Elaine Benedict is there, obviously he knows her. She still won't say anything until everyone is there, so she doesn't have to repeat herself. There are many amusing conversations as they wait for Doc to get there.

Freddie is my hero, I love him so much. The way he reconnects to Emersyn, and the new friend they make in Bodhi are some of the best scenes ever!

There's some very interesting intertwining in this book with Liam's relationship with the Royals that also seem to connect to Lainey.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster, one I couldn't put down. I laughed, cried, screamed and OMG the ending! The next book can't get here soon enough!

This book picks up immediately where the last book ended, and we see Emersyn go back into her uncle’s claws. & this book, for lack of a better way to phrase it, is absolutely f*cking crazy (in a good way).
I have a few qualms, the primary one being that there is a huge lack of communication with the Vandals and it’s super frustrating because there are bigger things at stake, and it wouldn’t kill these idiot men to just try to talk to each other for once in their goddamn lives, lol.
Finally, we get to a plan towards the middle of the book on how to get Emersyn back, and Freddie to the rescue. Seriously - Freddie is the hero in this book (along with Rome & Liam), and I think I’ve officially decided that these three are my favorite men in the harem, particularly Freddie.

As we discover more about the guys and their past, it becomes very clear that Freddie is the most broken and traumatized. My heart goes out to him throughout this entire book, and the lengths he’s willing to go to for Emersyn make my heart ache. He may be broken in a few ways, but he is so much stronger than he gives himself credit for, and I really think he may be the most well rounded of the guys.

I do find it a little difficult to wrap my head around the absolutely absurd amount of characters in this book. We have Emersyn and her harem of what appears to be seven freaking men, her brother (Raptor/Milo), her best friend, the guys surrounding her best friend (that appear to also be a buildup for her own harem?), the man pulling all the strings with Liam, Emersyn’s uncle, etc etc. It’s just a lot, and I do find myself asking the question of if we may just have way too much going on. I mean, we’re already on book 4 and I feel like we’ve somehow gotten nowhere as far as an actual storyline goes because we’re back at the compound trying to hide Emersyn, while still waiting for more info regarding her uncle, the man pulling Liam’s strings, and the Vandals as a gang overall.

For that reason, I’m ending this one at a 3.5/5 because we have so much happen in this book, while also having nothing happen at all and just creating all of these stories within the big story that are still unresolved. I’m going to read the fifth book and I’m looking forward to it, but I am nervous that a lot of it will be rushed to try and get a lot of things wrapped up and resolved.

“Freddie,” Jasper said as soon as we walked in. “Don’t.” I cut a glance to my right. Instead of his phone, he had his knife in his hand. “Do they know where Boo-Boo is?”

Well good grief! If I wasn't already head over heels for these 82nd Street Vandals then I would be now after book 4 😍 I'm so happy to be back at Braxton Harbor, the place where dark deeds and gang activity runs rampant.

I've never been so glad to reading a series that is going to be this long because I don't think I'll ever be ready to say goodbye to Rome, Freddie, Liam, Kellan, Jasper, Vaughan, Milo, Mickey and of course our leading lady Emersyn, who BTW is one of the strongest FMC I've ever read. What she goes through is heartbreaking and you really do feel like you're going through it all with her.

We pick right back up where Heather left is dangling off that cliff, but don't be fooled in thinking that just because we get right back into it that it's a smooth and peaceful journey, it is anything but! This book is wild, intense and is going to have you equally up in your feels and on the edge of your seat.

And my oh my, the Freddie, Rome and Liam team work is all my dreams come true, y'all know I've been head over heels for these guys since the start! I know we stan the why choose way of life but sorry I'd choose Rome a million times over without any doubt. I literally LOVE him! 🥰

Also if you're like me and you adored Freddie being the star of the show in the last book, well then you haven't seen anything yet, he was *chefs kiss* perfection and is going to steal your hearts with his strength and selflessness. Beautiful boy 😭

And in true Heather style the ending is going to have you sat there asking yourself what the hell just happened, and how can an author we all love so much have the AUDACITY to leave us like this for the fourth time in a row!

Real talk though, this series just gets better with every book, it goes from strength to strength and each one is more gritty than the last. I'm already counting down the days until we get the next and I can have my fill of those Vandals once again!
