what happened to alated bibliophile?

If you’d visited my site in the last week or so, chances are, you saw that my site was either unreachable or didn’t have any of my posts up.

To say I was panicking is definitely a bit of an understatement. The more I talked with support and the less [good] results I was seeing, I was convinced my blog–and subsequently, years of hard work–was gone.

how did this happen?

Well, put someone who’s just technologically proficient enough to be dangerous but has no clue how to troubleshoot and the need to renew the blog’s hosting plan, and, well, problems may arise.

Basically, instead of renewing my original hosting plan, I purchased an entirely new one. I thought I was upgrading my plan, but alas, it was something completely new. When my original plan ran out, my account was suspended–since, on their side, I didn’t pay my renewal fee–and so began my problems. I couldn’t get into my account to try to figure out what was going on, so I had to contact support to switch me over to the *new* plan (something I didn’t know until explaining my problem), that went through fine, but then my website needed to be moved. I was given the database file and the website file, given a tutorial on how to upload them, and was sent on my merry way.

I spent two days trying to upload these files before realizing, hey, this is a problem I can’t fix on my own, and so I went back to support. Support was able to help me get over that hurdle, but I still couldn’t access my blog. I followed every tutorial, every possible troubleshoot, and I just couldn’t get it to work.

thank you, support!

FINALLY, I was able to explain what was going wrong and today, thanks to the help of a very understanding and helpful member of support, I can now get into my blog. WHEW. Aside from the aforementioned issues, the final problem appeared to be a plugin, which support told me is quite common.

all that to say…

I’m back, thank the good Lord. So, expect to see my wrap-up of 2021, including a post of all my favorite reads, coming very soon! Thank you all so much for reading–and for your patience while I was dealing with arguably the most stressful blog issue I’ve encountered.

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to your new year!

Happy reading!
